i don't believe racism is always something you have to frown upon. but i mean this in a sense that what is these days considered 'racist', is instead just an individual having the confidence to actually say what they think. if someone is a dick head, white or black - you shouldn't be afraid of saying so.
my dad is a liberal racist. he argues politics with my brother, who's a conservative christian racist. way to go
I think there's too much emphasis on making life perfectly fair when its very essence is that of a giant unfairness... sometimes in one's favor and sometimes not. Institutional status based on an arbitrary standard of equitability deprives the recipient of the character value realized only by overcoming an obstacle by oneself- without help. Because of this sick obsession with fairness we are losing the means by which we should be able to define ourselves.
i edited it for clarity. which is ironic, because it proves my point you have to be concerned with constantly being called a racist, even when you're not.
i think racism only exists on account of a system that is constantly there to remind us of our differences. but yeah, i agree with this post.
I don't know that I would call an obsession with fairness, sick. Each "resident" of the camps set up for the american citizens known as Japanese, got $20,000 for their "troubles". That was an attempt at fairness that ,of course, fell woefully short because of what they lost when incarcerated. Wonder why german-americans weren't held in camps? Oh yeah-now I remember. To bring members of the human race to countries thousands of miles from their homeland (in horrendous conditions)auctioned off like so many cattle to serve as human machinery, deny them education, breed them like animals for desired qualities, kill them for imagined slights (not so long ago)or just because they appeared differant than our ancestors did, neglect them even to this day(vast ghettoes that exist right now-while billions are sent to other countries ) puts their decendants at quite a bit of a disadvantage compared to the rest of us. To help them play catch-up is why some of these programs were developed and again --fall woefully short. Why? Because "by god we/I can make it--why can't they? Lazy fuckers anyway" Yeah. OK. I get it. They were born useless and lazy. Uh huh. Odd people,we humans.
These points are exactly what I was getting at in a recently closed, seemingly racist thread. Look at the kinds of jokes Richard Pryor and/or Dave Chapelle made/make. If a white person told those jokes they'd probably get their ass kicked after the show. In my opinion there's a difference, which is largely defined by intent. If I laugh at a racist joke does that make me racist? Some might say yes, I say no because the intent is different. I don't intend to hurt anyone, I just laugh at what is funny, and perhaps in some cases what is true. The other side of that is the, "I'm not racist but...". White people now have to constantly worry about being called racist just for pointing out something that may have some semblance of truth to it. If it's the truth, is it still racist? People shouldn't have to censor themselves out of fear that some may point a finger at them. I'm not going to be worried about being considered a racist, life is too short to live constantly trying to justify oneself or looking over one's own shoulder. Instead I'll laugh at what's funny and say what I see as truth, and I'll know exactly how it's meant and what kind of person I am. Many people are quick to call words or thoughts racist, it's like everyone's looking for a bad guy all the time. There's always a good side and a bad side to everything, there's always got to be someone to blame for everything...
Yes I think so , I even see it at times in the opiates section. I got called an racist once, bc I stated an actual fact about mexican americans and how many children they have. But bc I was stating statistics I was racist, and shouldnt talk about them that way. I shouldnt have to walk around on eggshells just bc something is true, and I want to state it, and bc it might offend someone. I try my best not to offend people, but there are times where to hell with that, they will always find a way to nitpick what I have to say no matter what it is about. people like that are everywhere.
$20,000 And all we ever asked for was 40 acres and a mule ....... On Park Avenue, Beverly Hills, or South Beach :2thumbsup: Hotwater
no, you release the nature of a good joke - and furthermore how a joke is supposed to make fun of something. your post was great, by the way.
No you shouldn't. All that really matters is how you meant it and your definition of yourself. People will only ever hear or see what they want to hear or see. People will always find something to complain about and something/someone to blame for everything, something or someone to pin the problem on.
Yup. $20,000. I saw a check to a friend of mine with my very own eyes. I don't know about a mule and 40 acres. Might be handier with a sheep and 10 square feet ,depending.
Yeah and my intent in how I meant it, wasnt to put down mexican americans. And I didnt think stating a fact was, but I guess to them it was. so I just try to be me, and if people do not like who I am, or what not. oh well.
