I agree with mcleod, america should stay the hell out. At least 10 times the people dead now would be dead if we go over there. They're doing a fine job themselves

If this was up to the states it'd be over after 23 minutes of dropping bombs. Followed of course by a 10 year "war".

    Sorry to get off topic.

Well Britain does a good thing, Cameron is apparently the first world leader to come out and condemn the apparent government involvement in the current attacks.

People riding into the square on camels brandishing weapons, people in lines using cardboard as shields, both sides throwing molotov cocktails at each other from the streets and windows.

Christ, the Onion couldn't even make up news like that.

A bunch of oppressive leaders of other countries in that part of the world have been announcing that they're not going to run for "re-election". I guess they're scared of the same thing happening to them/ their country.

It's 5:01 in Cairo right now, apparently "heavy gunfire" has broken out in the streets.

the use of horsemen (camelmen?) with whips on crowds/mobs has a long history:

    http://www.armymuseum.ru/kaz1_e.html

i have read elsewhere of the fear generated by the cossacks with their whips. supposedly, they used whips with a lead ball (s) woven into the end of the lash.

when power is threatened, typically it will use elements which clearly denote why it is called 'power'. t-34s by the chinese in tienamin square, the british on boston commons, the russians in hungary and czechoslovakia, macarthur in the washington plaza on the WWI vets, chicago democratic convention...that last is a poor comparison, but...

I was watching live broadcasts of the battle on rachel maddow last night.

It was a full blown battle. Firebombs, hand to hand combat in group... flanking maneuvers, tactical holding of high ground possitions... my god! Things seem a little calmer now in daylight hours, but it's just going to hit the fan again I reckon when the sun goes down.

This may not be constructive but I can't help it.
After watching closely at the footage last night of the square, I just have one thing to say for either side of any revolutions to come: Don't throw molotovs if you have bad aim or have never done it before.

Seriously, I saw at least three people set themselves on fire (real badly) trying to toss them.

Moltovs aren't very reliable... shit like that i bound to happen when they're the primary weapon of a battle.

I'm an addicted viewer now; the video feed through Al Jazeera seems to be down now, however. Frustrating...

Other than the fact that they're glass and thus dangerous to carry in a rough confusing situation, molotov's can be made VERY safe and transportable, yet ready to throw.
