UPDATE 2/11: Egypt at a standstill. Nationwide strikes paralyze the country. No trains (strike), main highways closed. Mubarak and family flee to Red Sea. Suez Canal no longer charging for passage. Economy in free-fall without tourism and canal income.

UPDATE 2/10: Mubarak expected to step down tonight. Army coup reported. Thousands of doctors and lawyers march into Tahrir Square to join demonstrators. Corruption investigation launched against former ministers. Rumors that Mubarak has left Cairo for Red Sea. Saudi King promises to support Mubarak and replace US aid to military.

Despite how the US media is spinning events unfolding in Egypt, the US government is now preparing for the worst case scenarios as protests grow larger than ever. US Expeditionary forces have taken up position in the Suez Canal, ready to respond to any threats towards the important oil shipping route.

Obama seems to have backed off his previous demands for immediate political change (he never did call for Mubarak to resign immediately). And now apparently he's content to let Mubarak stay in power, backed by the military until the September elections.

But the Egyptian people will not wait!

    Things to note:
Everyone in Egypt is saying this is a Youth revolt powered by Internet social media. This is true as the Internet is no longer being blocked and online protesters are again coordinating the largest protests ever in Egypt (since Moses anyway). In fact, the Google executive admitted he is behind the facebook that kept the protests alive since 1/25. That's probably why the secret police arrested him and kept him for six days. Now he's a hero and been appointed (by the masses) to be the spokesman for the 6th of April movement (who started the original protests 3 years ago).

The revolt is hitting the government and private sectors as workers are forming "revolutionary committees" to decide the future of many departments in the govt. and possibly industry. This is an interesting development as it shows that revolutionary thinking is spreading rapidly, and not just among the young!

Video is a great example of police brutality. Run over your fellow citizens who want peace?

    "car flips over"

    Good luck.

I wouldn't call the Suez canal an important oil trading route, I'd call it an important everything trading route.

So apparently the whole deal comes down to the military. Protesters are stopping food supplies to the soldiers. The question is how long can they hold out defending the presidential palace, the Interior ministry, the TV station, etc. without food.
