I love to write poetry a lot, I'm just scared to let others read it since I'm worried what they might think. I write I guess I'm worried of being judge since it's mostly about mushy love poetry and so forth. Anyways to anyone that does post their writings and poetry, what are your thoughts when you post your poetry?
I love sharing my writing, personally. But I can see how sharing emotional pieces can be rather scary. What I suggest is that you post on the forum here...one piece of your writing. You don't know any of us in person, and in this forum, we're all writer's looking for a place to share and make a difference with what we write, so consider this a judgment free zone! We have no reason to judge you or assume anything from your writing. We are here for the same things you are!
Check out my poems, there are a bunch of mushy love poems in there Don't fear. And if you don't want criticism, or don't want harsh criticism, you can always say so in the thread. Most people here don't comment anyways =P
Just remember to put any possible criticism in context. It's your arrangement of words that some may find fault with -- not you personally, or the feelings that inspired that arrangement of words.
And remember that while some criticism is very valid, and constructive; other criticism is more oppressive or a matter of taste; and you only have to accept criticism you want to accept. Also, look at it as a good thing; feedback that can help you grow. I get annoyed cause of how little my work is criticized =P
I've looked over a few of yours Duck, I gotta say from what I've looked over so far, those are really good.
I here ya Gizmo. I have not shared anything personal here as far tapping into who I am as a person and then expressing it through poetry. It's a bit scary because I'm an insecure person inside, and on the outside not confident, but wth writing I find a balance and sometimes this tips the scales from insecurity to unwarranted confidence, then as always coming across seriously arrogant. Which all it is, is just a wall put up, if I let it down...if I let it, I have a deep well of stuff to share with relative easy access. But do I want people here to know me personally ? I don't know yet. But one thing is for sure, the more you write the easier that decision becomes I think. Ignore crit, as duck says and just take what you think fits your puzzle. Never act above people. I do all the time and lose favor, when I'm not really like that. Walls. Best way to realize what you got is not to hear out someone about your work when that person may be degrees your lesser (or your better), rather by reading some works by authors you like and then developing a relationship with their style is the way to improve. imo Anyone great in anything is a very resourceful learner. If you write to entertain then listen to every single person, take the average and divide by your senses.
I was actually about to post one of my poems for the first time when your post caught my eye. This will be the first time any one other than me has read this poem. And I get why you're nervous, just remember you ARE your poetry, don't allow them to judge. It's really only judgment if you allow it to get to you. Other than that, it's just their opinion. And I think we all know the saying about opinions and assholes. So anyways, hope too see some of your writing!
art is meant to be shared. you can always add a comment under your poem saying you aren't really looking for critique or judgement and that you just want to share your work with others.
Just post em. People are generally nice in their critiques, and even when it's a little harsh, it's almost always constructive criticism.
