... now I'm in jail. Music can be an amazing creative outlet and passtime, but what happens when people take lyrics to heart? It can either be good or bad depending on the music. I've noticed that the more I listen to something, the more it influences my everyday thoughts and comments. I think that I am a diffrent person now than I would have been if I never listened to any music, and I think overall I've changed for the better. Classic rock (The Beatles, etc.) taught me about passionate love, and then about how much it sucks to lose it. Psychedelic rock (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc.) taught me about opening my mind and enjoying life for what it is. Reggae taught me to love and respect God and his gifts to us. It also taught me respect for everything. Techno and dubstep showed me the crazier side of both music and life. Finally, rap (my most recent intrest. I love all the classics, Biggie, D12, NWA, etc.) taught me about the darker side of life and music. They put to words all the pain, rage, and hate that I've ever felt. It's like they knew exactly what was going through my mind. Rap also taught me to not take stuff so seriously, to ease up and chill out. After all, it's not the end of the world... How has music influenced YOUR life? For good, or bad?
making music is a fun activity and a pleasant diversion when friends are involved. listening to the music of others serves as a valuable means of escaping one's surroundings temporarily. that being said, when one takes any form of art literally and it directly affects (or is used as an excuse) for one's actions... well, that exposes a lack of critical thinking skills. not a knock on you, my unknown-friend. it is simply an observation.
Oh, I didn't say that though, I meant that music has taught me things about life and whatnot. I don't take any of that stuff LITERALY, the rap anyways. I just learn stuff about myself and life in general through music. It also provides a temporary escape and an outlet (wether you play it or just listen to it). I think music is a beautiful thing, and I'm so glad that it's around.
