shit has gotten so technologically crazy for one.

also, pop culture is getting more "futuristic." drum and bass or maybe dubstep music (i'm no expert on either, so forgive me if i'm wrong). the superbowl half time show..they were wearing space suits pretty much.

    i stumbled upon this site
    http://www.apexvj.com/sc/
and had the above thought...but back to the technology part of it.

the internet has exploded in my short time on the earth. home phones are becoming obsolete, and everyone has a cell phone. hand held internet, i-pads, GPS is in every other car i pass on the highway. i'm only 25, but i already feel like i'm behind the times. when i'm 70, i'm really gonna be in the dark, and things will be 10 times as insane as they are today.
i was at the bar tonight and has $0.00
just three lines of credit represented by plastic cards.
when will get a chip put under my skin?

The future has basically spoiled us all. I'm mainly talking about internet porn though, we can never go back to magazines after 100 million boobs at a mouse click.

Yes it has, and its very scary honestly. I agree with everything you just said.

Something big is going to hit our planet whether we had a role in it or not. Im pretty convinced we already have though. Our technology is a double edge sword really. You have GPS in your car, so now you just gave away your every move. Cellphones and history, email, anything downloaded. We even got fucking video cameras that take a photo of my license plate if I drive to fast.

I've become very convinced that if we continue on the path we are going in todays world, we wont be around much longer. People are fixated on getting new toys that they seriously don't need. Technology is consuming our natural resources, and for the most part, putting nothing back. Its our fault and honestly,

    We are fucked.

Pop culture is overrated. The "latest technology" has long been used as a promotional stunt to get people to spend and spend and spend... my "toys" may not be state of the art but they keep me entertained and increasingly informed. At 25 I had eight years to go before I got my first computer. I remember a close friend getting her first PC- complete with a fax modem and a blazing baud rate of 19.2k bp/s and waiting nearly a half hour for the first web page to download... and everyone was amazed. I'm old enough to remember the first Atari home video game systems and how unique the concept of actually playing an interactive game on your television set... when most peoples telephone looked exactly the same and they all had rotary dials. I recall dialing a number and listening to the series of electronic clicks feeding back through the handset with each number I dialed and realizing that if you could tap the line, record and count the clicks you could figure out what number was being dialed.

The feeling of newness has become less novel over time for me.

I know what you mean, Netflix blew my mind. TV on demand? I prayed for such a thing as a child. Now that I have it, eh. I could take it or leave it.

i like what the internet could mean (but doesnt, because its not free to everyone everywhere, i hate money.) because it could make us as close as all one people. that might be nice. but instead it has broken down the civil discourse (people are so angry on the web) without allowing for that. i like to understand what is real, as well as my feelings about what is real. i am a realist, and an idealist. is there a limit to the -ists you can be?

i also dont like that technology has eliminated the 'need' for basic knowledge. some people REALLY dont know where their food comes from. absolutely serious. dont know beef/ hamburger comes from cows, dont know eggs come from chickens etc. i think these things are truly vital to have a basic understanding of. how to cook, how to balance a checkbook, how to do basic repairs. lots of stuff. not necessarily hard to do, but it would save you so much money and therefore time slaving at a job you hate to make the money to pay for processed food? for a plumber? for a mechanic? some things warrant a professional, but most everyone should be able to do basic things. its part of the remarkable abilities we have as humans, we are specialized to be generalists.

so the internet is a mixed bag for me. but soon there wont be anyone who remembers a Before Internet pace of life. i mean, im only 25, but you already can look at basically anyone younger and they are clueless. i read that they are letting kids turn in homework in text. can you imagine? as if people didnt have a hard enough time spelling.

On the flip side though things like wikipedia, internet versions of the BBC, NPR, internet forums like this, places like erowid, science daily, ect give people access to information in an instant that preciously would've taken god knows how long to search for. Not since the printing press has such a revolution in information happened. The internet doesn't make people dumb, it just exposes the stupidity of some people for all to see.

there is nothing "futuristic" about a lot of the RCs since they were originally synthesized by Shulgin in the 70s-80s

Well i have found spell checker actually greatly improves my spelling, words i was spelling wrong my whole life and i never even knew it.

Dunno about people not knowing where eggs and beef come from, to be honest they are just idiots in the first place you can't blame technology IMO.

It doesn't make you more stupid, stupid people will be stupid regardless of technology.
