21 years old, and I think I've only gotten drunk once with extreme heartburn. To the point, I am having trouble getting a handle on drinks, specifically, liking them. My bro and dad tried to get me on the beer train, and I just don't like any of it. It would be nice if I did, for it's a money saver, but it just doesn't do it for me. Pretty much the only thing you'll see me drinking are wine coolers (Mike's Smirnoff, Bacardi, etc). Of course, these tend to give me heartburn easily. My friends and family have had try different things, but I just don't enjoy drinking them. I know it's not about the drink; it's about the buzz, but I am one for flavor and without the burn. Any suggestions on drinks, what I can do, whatever? My friends always bother me that I always order a soft drink, but I'd rather have something I enjoy.
if you have friends and can form romantic relationships without alcohol, and are pretty much happy as you are, then not drinking is not a problem. unless there would be something missing in your life without alcohol, you're better off this way. the protection you would get from alcoholism, injury, accident, fights, arrest, obesity, ect., makes not drinking worthwhile, so long as you are ok with being sober.
Follow your instincts. It's okay to not do what everybody else does. There's nothing wrong with preferring a coke to a beer. Your friends will get over razzing you before too long. Your real friends, that is.
If you don't enjoy drinking them, why bother? I wouldn't drink something that I don't like simply because it is cheaper or other people are drinking it. Stick to what you like.
There doesn't also have to be such a burn. I was raised by someone who enjoined wine and the other hard liquor. I never really cared for beer and the only time i get near it is once I'm pretty toasty. I saw a billboard for gentlemen's jack. It advertised that it was smoother so that might be a possibility. Mead was actually pretty tasty too. If you ever get the chance, the Renaissance Fair near you is bound to have a selection that doesn't cause so much heart burn.
Actually it's called Gentleman Jack. Made by Jack Daniels about 30 miles from where I live, it's a 96 proof Tennessee whisky.
