I find the concept outdated myself, this should be a celebration of all heritage but yes there is also a Latin and Asian history month. btw I don't think any black person in america is 100% african/black so no lol.

It might just because I grew up being picked on for being white in a densely populated black and Hispanic area but does anyone think the media and some parents have corrupted children's view on the matter? I had so many kids bring up slavery to me as an excuse for why I couldn't participate in certain things. Neither of us were apart of that time. I recognize that history is important and I welcome it to generations now and later but I feel like it's teaching kids to ride on their ancestor's past lives as an excuse for not working hard. Nickelodeon had a commercial where a young black girl was getting picked on for having an elevated vocabulary. I've met quite a few that have passed my intelligence and I think it's amazing but for the majority that is not the case. They were the majority picking on me. I don't want that to be a life where my child grows up. I want them to see that everyone is capable and that race and gender shouldn't be the deciding factor of who they hang out with, what college funding they get, or someone getting a job over them not for having more qualifications, but because it would make the company more ethnically diverse.
