Helloo hippie ladies. So I will start out with a couple facts - my mother doesn't believe in doctors, unless it's an absolute emergency -i'm 16 -i'm a virgin i have used pads for 3 years, and i've tried tampons before, well i've tried to put them in. i either get to scared or they don't .. exactly.. go in... it's kinda awkward. and wish i didn't have to use pads all the time, i hate the enviro impact but more importantly i hate being uncomfortable. any help or suggestions?
You don't need a doctor or to be sexually active to use tampons. Have you read the instructions that come with the tampons, telling you how to insert them? It usually has a diagram to show where they should be inside you. Why do you get scared? Your anatomy won't let them go past the end of your vagina. You won't lose it in there, but if you don't have them in far enough, you'll be able to feel it and it will be uncomfortable. I suggest getting a mirror out and getting familiar with your girlie parts so you won't be afraid.
This is great advice!! There's a common misconception that you have to be sexually active to you tampons, that they take your virginity, etc. Facts: Anyone and everyone can use tampons. It might be scary at first, but soon its super easy, and way more comfortable. And virginity isn't whether something is stuck up in you... virginity is a personal thing, whether you've shared your body with someone else or not. Hope this helps!
also, if you're worried about environmental impact, you can wear a diva cup. also, don't let your mom's beliefs stop you from going to the doctor. do you have a school nurse you could talk to?
The cup is awesome, I love it. I used tampons long before I was sexually active. I did have a trick, though, as there was "something" impeding complete insertion for me. I cut them in half with a clean pair of snippers and inserted the half with the string only. It worked wonderfully for me, until one day when I got startled while inserting. There was an "ow" moment, then suddenly I could put them in all the way. Hmm. Hymen solved.
I really wouldn't worry about It. I started my period when I was 16 and I've only started using Tampons earlier last year In 2010 couse I was uncomfatable about using them. You will use them when you're ready. I found I was more ready when I've lost my vivginity and also I didn't plan I just randomly used them one day.
Have you tried any of the awesome tampons out there that have the plastic applicators? Now I know plastic isn't exactly great for the environment, but I lost my virginity about 7 years ago and I can honestly say I still can't use a cardboard app comfortably. If you absolutely can't get into the tampon thing, though, have you looked into reusable washable pads? You can likely find someone in the crafts section who makes them or can direct you to an etsy or Ebay seller who makes them.
Oh I use them, aren't they like kinda new couse Tampons used to be cardbourd. These plastic ones are easy to put in and don't feel uncomfatable. I recommend.
There is something else to be factored in here - if you are nervous and your first couple of attempts weren't successful there's every chance that your vaginal muscles are very tense which will make insertion even more dificult. Trying to relax said muscles may make the job a bit easier. If not I would give up trying for a couple of months and then have another go.
I always think It's best when you're not thinking about it too much and you randomly do It. And I wasen't a virgin when I used them.
I have to say that I have always hated tampons and I have tried them multiple times both before I had sex and after and they are never ever comfortable to me. We are all different so I've just decided they are not for me. I like to use the cloth pads, but they are kind of messy. But maybe you could try a smaller tampon size? The most important things is for you to be comfortable.
The virginity misconception still floats around from time to time, as well as a lot of other myths about tampons and menstruation. A lot of these myths were created by the medical profession and marketing companies to subordinate women and make a lot of money at the same time. http://feministphallusies.blogspot.com/
there are also tampons that have no applicator! they're called o b. they look like little bullets and are shorter than regular tampons, i think. but it might be easier to insert because you just push them in. and then there's no plastic or cardboard leftover to get rid of.
ive been using tampons for a long time, never had issues, but im sick of buying them! i actually dislike plastic applicators, they bite my bits, and that is unacceptable! so i have always used cardboard or no applicator. now, though, i am trying to squeeze a diva cup into my budget, and i am making some cloth pads (i do not suffer from a 'yuck' factor when it comes to bodily functions) to try out. i have heard fabulous things on the internet (search 'mama cloth' or 'homemade pads') and the thing is you can buy them, or make them fully customized to your body/ flow. i switched to cloth tp and my girly bits havent felt better, no lint, no leak through, awesome. and then wash them, no sweat. so i figure the cloth pads will have a similar wow factor.
I actually use sea sponge tampons. They're like the O.B.'s, as you just push them in, but create monumentally less waste. You can use them up to like 5 or 6 months if you take care of them. I'd look into that.
