Metal does suck. It sucks so hard that were it to suck on you, it would violently rip you up and ingest you in a glorious sea of blood and screams like the end of the third alien movie when the alien got sucked into space... Metal

Because you're not listening to the right metal

I'm gonna be honest here, I'm new to this forum so I can't say i'm the authority on anything, but the ignorance regarding metal (ignorance here is not used as a derogatory term, it just means lack of knowledge) is immense.

Metal is not only about violence, wearing masks, killing people, hate, devil worship and whatever else most of you are talking about. It has come to be known as that, in the ''mainstream'', but it is only a small portion of things. There is a wide variety of types of ''metal'' nowadays.

I myself have been involved in my local metal scene for about 10 years, and speaking for the bands I have played in, the only mention of war or violence was for exposing them. The rest was all positive and empowering.

In short - yes, metal is agressive, but there is a HUGE difference between agression and violence. Yes there is some metal that is violent and stupid and satanic, but most of it isnt.

All that matters is if I like a record or not. And I don't like any metal records people have introduced me to. End of story. I agree with the girl who said it's too angry.
I'm about flowers and peace and freedom. metal feels like I'm being sucked into a cocoon and in a box. Just not fun or enjoyable.

You're about flowers and peace and freedom. I'm about chainsawz and blood orgies and nazi experimental doctors. I mean, wutevar floats your boat mai friend. Who said music has to make you feel good? and.... who says metal doesn't make you feel good?

It is an extremely diverse genre, so everyone will have a different opinion on it... but one thing stays true thuout... metal owns ur soulz:guitarist::drummer::beatdeadhorse5:

i like lots and lots of different types of modern music but i cant listen to any kind of metal... i think you have to be a really angry person to fully enjoy it. how come almost every 'metal' band name is something violent or offensive? and for the most part fans at metal shows would rather punch each other in the face than dance. I dont think Ill ever really understand it

Agreed... I think theres a certain amount of anger or pent up frustration that has to be channeled to really dig metal. Theres a few songs I like here and there and I can respect most of it, but I'm not queueing it up on my i-tunes playlist anytime soon.

A big factor is influences. My first real musical influence was my cousin. And he was a metal head. So it was just normal to start liking metal. The way I saw it at the time. It was either Boy Bands, or Metal, because the world loved boy bands, and I did not, therefore, metal.

I recognize how other people were not influenced to like metal, and therefore, most do not. The aggression and screaming/growling/whatever seems to be the thing that most people can not seem to get past. I have shown Lamb of God to 60 year old men who barely no what metal is. And the response is usually "I like the guitar and drums"

Listen to what you like, be open to liking something else.

the vocals are what I dislike most about metal. I can dig on some metal instrumentals on occasion, but I really don't understand why every metal band does the screaming/growling thing. why can't they just sing? I have a friend that has had years of vocal training in opera, i'm trying to talk her into starting a metal band just because I think metal would be awesome with opera vocals.

I've never really cared for Evanesence. Her vocals are amazing but there is nothing about the music that really grabs my attention

I dont care for evanescense either but I just meant amy lee kind of has operatic vocals. Not put on the horned helmet Olga type opera vocals but pretty theatric nonetheless.

    Lacuna Coil > Evanescense
