My daughter just got her G1 (learners permit) to drive. I have had her out driving now 4 times and she has driven on the last two weekends with her Dad. She is doing really well with learning and getting a little confidence in herself!!

Kind of a great time as she is on another little road to growing up and being more independent.

I can remember getting mine, I was 16 and it was an accomplishment at the time.

Funny how the rites of passage change with each generation and yet many still stay the same. :)

i never really had a drivers license when I was teen. my parents bought me cars too,. but never had a permit/ well actually I did once but it expired.. Then I went in the army and had a license. I had that for a while and didnt get a real drivers license when I was discharged.. didnt get a real license again for about 4yrs, then went in the army again and did the same thing had a military license for a while.. it expires in like 60days but i didnt care. still dont. I let my last license expire so I could renew it on 4/20, hahah how lame is that..

I got my first at 16 along with a nice little '37 Plymouth coupe from a friend. The Plymouth cost me 25 bucks and I'm sure the license was just a few bucks also. Insurance was something like 30 bucks for a year.Where I grew up (?) ,it was pretty much all country and my dad taught me to drive when I was 8 or 9 years old. I was a big kid ,so I had no trouble with reaching the pedals. Damn-that means I've been driving for 62 fricken years and have only rolled two cars!

I'm studying for my second learner's permit. The first expired after a few years, cause I couldn't get enough practice in to feel confident about parallel parking.

This time, instead of trying to get my mum to be patient enough to let me park, Imma try bugging my aunt. Plus, now I have friends old enough to drive with me

I was so excited to get my license just so that I wouldn't have to ride the hated bus to school!

It would be strange to drive on the opposite side of the road. I saw a poor English couple pile into another car when the driver got distracted and ,I guess, forgot just for a few seconds and drove on the left around a curve in Santa Cruz,Cal. Seems like cars with the steering wheel on the left like here, would find it difficult if not impossible to pass another car over there.

I'm 19 in 3 months and only have my learner's license lol Not being able to drive has always seemed like a total stoner trait to me. Oh well, I'll try for my license in the spring when the roads clear up.

Good luck to her, Heat :)

I started to have lesson when I was 17/18 but I don't think I was suited to driving at the time.
I'm not quite sure how I did.
    I didn't kill anybody, anyway.
16 years go by and I thought about it again after coming into some money.
Then realised how expensive it is.
Decided to buy an electric bike instead.
Obviously I'll be telling everybody it is to lower my carbon-footprint.

Let us all know when she has passed :)

I had a car ready and waiting at 15..got the permit on my 16th birthday and the license as soon as I could after that

have always owned my own and had my own insurance as primary

i have probably owned over 1000 vehicles since then...but I was into the scrap business for a while and most were not used on daily basis

it was my dad that taught me...my mom still doesnt know how to drive (although she does have a license)

the first time I drove I was around 9...on bush roads

I started learning to drive a few weeks after I turned 15, but a girl in my class died in a drunk driving accident the following September, so my parents and I decided it might be best if I practiced a little more and got more confident with my driving before I got my license. I was too scared to drive for the first few months after that girl died, and then it became like pulling teeth getting my mom to take me out driving. I swore my dad off from teaching me after a couple of tries because he's too impatient. I got my license a few weeks after my 18th birthday.

Up until recently, they just handed licenses out like candy, you'd have to fill out certain paperwork and pass the written test and they'd just give you your license if you were 16 or 17. Fucking stupid as hell, that's why everyone is such a shitty driver here. But once you turned 18, you had to take the driving test. I barely passed, but I did pass on my first try which was more than I could say for almost all of my friends (yeah, we were all lame and most of us waited until 18 to get our licenses. Small town, we just walked everywhere). Then I met my boyfriend a few months later and he retaught me how to drive because my mom is a terrible driver. And then I learned how to drive with one foot instead of both because...my mom is a terrible driver. lol.

I would go hunting with my father and he'd get out and walk the road...my job was to bring the truck to him after about 20 minutes ...or sooner if I heard shots fired

My first car was a 1965 Ford falcon two door, three speed on the column, straight six...
I paid 200 bucs for that car....;-)

I still don't know how I got my license...I was very fortunate that my driver's ed instructor kept the cop distracted during my test. Hell, I don't even know how I'm STILL able to drive...I was an awful awful driver when I first got my license.

Got my license at 19, never really had an interest in driving, but the opportunity arose in the army, where 1) They would pay a fair bit of it and 2) It got me about 2 weeks out of duty, so naturally I jumped on that. I didn't really drive a lot until the past couple of years, and now I don't even need a license.
