go to www.zeropaid.com, it is hands down the best site for file sharing info. As for programs, I would have to say the nest is DC++. If you're on a college campus you can use i2hub.

I am a computer repair technician.
Im the guy who gets all these computers that are 'running slow' and have some weird problems.

I swear.. I should write Kazza a thank you letter for all the work they provide me.
If i didnt know better - Id think the new Kazza versions were written by Techs looking to get more Units moved.

Please do NOT install Kazaa on your computer.

Try Shareaza instead.. or ANYTHIGN but that Evil Creation known as Kazaa.

I'm using Ares also.. I consider it to be a great alternative to Kazaa. It's also much faster in my opinion.

    Aries - Yes!

Remember - Kazaa used to be relatively Spyware-Free at the beginning too.
    LimeWire was the same way.

So watch out for 'Upgrade Now!' offers from these P2P's. The new 'Upgrade' may very well = 'New Spyware'!

everyone should stop being so damn lazy and just use mIRC, it safer, and you know exactly what your downloading. sure you might have to sit in line for somthing but it beats having to fix your PC because one of those p2p programs put spyware on it.

try it you just might learn a few things.

They are not lazy. They have jobs and families and other things to do besides spent 10 hours trying to wade through the Mirc learning curve.

Fair Warning - BearShare is bundled with a nice big heaping spoonful of Spyware.

I cant understand how WinMX lovers can enjoy that thing but if you can tolerate the GUI - then its Spyware free.

    .. but..

Fair Warning on WINMX.. On some systems it will NOT get along with XP Service Pack 2.
I wont recommend WinMX and SP2 at the same time.

I keep getting back to www.shareaza.com for a real great all-purpose, easy to configure all-around good p2p.

I totally agree with this. I used to be able to spend 8 hours a day on the internet. Now I probably spend about an hour or two. I don't have time to wait behind 20 people for a particular program or album. I also have to disagree with the statement that IRC is much safer.

    LOL!
Well listen.. I spend my fair share of time on Mirc too.. but honestly, the average user is more likely to get slammed with Trojans and IRC Exploits even IF they get past the basic learning curve.

I must say.. Edonkey (or Emule now i think?) is definately a good one IF you keep your box on 24/7 and are looking for big files.

For some reason though.. I always get SLOOOWW downloads now.. no matter how much configuring I attempt?

See but then again.. Shareaza can get you anything on the Edonkey Network too.

ares kicks ass, kazza-lite is good except for it gives messed up songs all the time.

    limewire is also really good

irc is really good too for software, movies, full albums, etc. and for the lineups it't not like you have to be on your pc while waiting, you click it and let mIRC do the rest. so you caN go get on with your life.

    torrent (azureus) is also great.

You can try Bearshare. The Free version works just as well. Also, with Kazaa-Lite, you have to make sure all the settings are correct for your connection speed.
