Hi guys,, Dreads are : 7months old, quite thin , around 70-80 [3/4" sections, never waxed] Firstly to tell you my wash routine, I put around 10-20grams of Bicarb into 2litres of water [softwater]. I pour on and wait 10-20mins, and rince well.. then step out, grab a towel with pat my head for a minute or less. I then dry the rest with a hairdryer to get most of the dread dry, and then let the air dry them, i make sure i don't put them into a tam or go to sleep if they are damp [usually wash them in the morning anyway].. The only change to the above, is sometimes i add tea tree oil, and sometimes to that i add lavender and rosamary oill, [1-2 drops max]. [Stopped using apple cider vinegar with the rince, coz i think they are condiitioning the dreads, and some were undreading, [ends] ] === Now my worst fear is smell, and recently my hair has been smelling a little like bicarb of soda [I think?? ] ,, it just is awful really,, if i put my hand on my temple and then smell, you can pick the oder up a little... any tips, pointers, suggestions? All the best
How often are you washing them? Also, I have no real conception of how much '10-20grams of bicarb' is, since I've never weighed it out, but that seems like a lot... Try using less, and rinsing more thoroughly.
Make sure you rinse all that shit out. And then repeat. A few times. I washed with b'king soda last night and I asked my lady how my hair smelled, she said like hair. I said, "not like strawberry mango apple cinnamon blast?" She said, "nah, but it kinda smells like weed." I was like, "oh word." and then I finished my hooter.
I was thinking this also. 20 grams? Could be not that much I guess. I just get my face really close to the bottle and close my left eye. Then I start pourin that shit in and somethin usually happens where I'm just like eeeeehhhhooohhh shit that's enough. Then, and I truly believe this is the real secret to growing the master locks, I give the bottle a few whirls. Not shakes. A few circular motions, mainly a wrist action. There's needs to be a small portion of verticle movement also, but not too much. I'd say it's about 85%circular, 15% upndowm. Then mix that concoction in with your scalp and boooooopoooooppoooomshakalaka! Massa locks. I said too much.
Bicarb scum is the bane of bicarb users Just use water (or shampoo) for a couple of washes and see can you get all the bicarb out.
yep, regulaity helps scalp balance, and also dreading happens in the washing and drying stages,, so when my locks are lookin wierd due to tam use, i wash them, they look great
but you still got a bunch of bicarb stuck in there that your afraid is gonna make your hair stink. My advice, what pypes said. Next time you wash, do it with just wa wa. Waaaay off subject, I just listened to kiss from a rose From seal and was completely suprised by how many lyrics I knew. How did that even happen?
I Was Quite Surprised To Read This Thread, Because I Have Been Using Baking Soda For 18 Months Now, Washing Every Day In Summer And Every Second Day In Winter. My Dreads Vary In Thickness And I Have About 55. A Few Months Ago I Went On A Ripping Spree And One Effort Left A Loopie Just Hanging By A Few Hairs.... Eventually It Broke Off So I Used The Opportunity To Cut It Open And See What Was Inside. Under A Magnifing Glass And 50 Watt Q.I Worklight I Saw Just The Slightest Trace Of White Powder, And NO SMELL WHATSOEVER...:2thumbsup:. I Don't Know What 20 Grams Looks Like, But When I Wash I Put Between A Half And Full Level Tablespoon Depending How Greasey Or Dusty They Are, And Mix In A 1.25 Litre Coke Bottle. I Have No Dandruff...No Itch...No Irritation...No Smell...No Excessive Oils, Or Dryness...:2thumbsup:. Hope This Helps In Some Small Way..... Cheers Glen.
lmao I had that shit stuck in my head a few weeks ago! XD Why do you basically do a deep cleanse every time you wash? Just pour it on and scrub, then rinse immediately. But the best advice I can give you is to just wash with water. It's better than any kind shampoo and anyone that tells you otherwise hasn't given it a chance
I have ordered some knotty boy peppermint shampoo, and will wash with that for a while! See what happens
Kiss from a rose was just about the only song I could ever play well on guitar. Hence me quitting guitar.
