Hey everyone I'm new here but I've been pro hippie for some time now.
I have this problem in my life,a problem that I got so sick of.
You see,my peers already know what to do with their life, they know what to do to make their future more....positive (?) as for me..I really have no clue about life and what to do with it..first of all I think too much about life so that is maybe my problem, second, everyone around me won't stop ratting about the things I should do..how come they know what I should do when I never didn't know? I'm comfortable with my self because I believe living in the moment is all what it is about, but no body understands it,they are all 'ok we get it you're a hippie but seriously what are you going to do?!' How does that even relate to being a hippie? I just don't get it,it has nothing to do with being a hippie.

I already ran away from home for a week, fucking the system, getting everyone worried sick about me,but it didn't teach them anything,I'm sick of trying to explain my self to everyone,I'm just another whiny teen that thinks no body understands, how do I stop being one and actually do something? what do I need to do?

BTW running away was the best thing that I ever did,so don't say it was useless and running away isn't the answer. I met a whole lot of good people and learned something useful.

    ^ Good lesson learned, then.

If I can give a piece of advice, I'd worry less about being a hippie. Not that you need to change your behaviour, but drop the label; being "hip" just means being who you are. From the way you talk, (and I can relate), it seems like perhaps "hippie" is a filter through which you run yourself. If this is so, you might consider trying to change it.

As to living in the present, I think you must keep in mind that it doesn't mean doing nothing. You're always doing something, from moment to moment, projecting yourself into the future if only a little bit. It's not about ignoring any bigger picture, but remembering to cherish the smaller, more immediate picture. You can do anything with your life (just about) and still live in the present, at least most of the time.

You can't completely abdicate the future; even your posting this shows that much ;)

I would suggest not comparing yourself to your peers. This isn't about them; it's about you.

It sounds to me like you want to do something with your life; you just don't know what. You have to consider two things: what you want and what you need. If they coincide, that's cool. If they don't, you still have to provide for them both.

What you need is food, shelter, clothing, some degree of social contact. What you want is up to you. What DO you want? What do you like doing? And why do you like doing those things - what about them gives you satisfaction? Is there some way to get what you need out of what you like to do?
By stopping being one and actually doing something.

Sorry, glib answer, I know. But that IS the answer. Life isn't a TV show where things will get better after the next commercial break. This is as real as it gets. If you want to do something, you have to just do it.

I know where you are at walrustears, and I know it can seem so overbearing and intimidating and just damn frustrating when everyone around you seems to have an opinion on what is best for you or comparing you to what others are achieving. But I agree with KeithBC "What you need is food, shelter, clothing, some degree of social contact. What you want is up to you. What DO you want? What do you like doing? And why do you like doing those things - what about them gives you satisfaction? Is there some way to get what you need out of what you like to do?"

It can seem hard to know what it is that you enjoy and try to make something out of it. But I sincerely believe that as long as you do these three things then life is wonderful 1: that you are happy, that you take time to appreciate even the smallest things that bring you joy, 2. that you give to others, that you are kind and helpful and unselfish and 3. that you love, love those around you, love the planet and love life. 3 simple steps. life isnt about big acomplishments, paychecks or status. its happiness, kindness and love.

Remember that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.

You will be fine. Just stop stressing over the small inconsequential things and what others think of you!
