I'm starting to believe I have a spirit guide.

    The Great White Owl.

I don't know much about owls but where I come from, the great white owl does not come around. But I happen to see the owl about once a year. When I tell people this, they don't believe me. Usually I see it in the winter/spring about once a year. Nobody I know has seen a white owl. I also dream that I'm an owl. Usually about once a week or more, I dream that I fly like an owl but I'm not able to see myself. I didn't realize till recently that in my dreams, I have all the characteristics as an owl but I don't have a visible body.

A couple weeks ago I ran into the great white owl again. I was taking my dog for a walk when I looked up at the top of my house and saw a white owl looking back down at me. My friend was with me and he saw it too. The owl just stared at us and when I looked at the owl, it felt as if I was looking right back at myself. I instantly got this high and I fell over and had hot flashes and dizzy spells. The owl just stared at me and everything around me was blurry except for the owl. Then it flew off into the moon light. My friend was just leaving and I walked him to his car then I walked my dog alone.

Later that night, I dreamed of the owl. I dreamed he woke me up from my bed to tell me there was a fire in the house. My friend was in the dream too, and my friend and I tried to put the fire out from my stove. We successfully put the fire out and I looked at the owl and the owl said, "you know who I am". Then the owl flew away. I woke up after that and it was morning. I got onto facebook and there was a note from my friends profile, the friend who was over at my house to witness the owl with me. The note had my friends name followed by the dates 1981-2011. My friend passed away that night.

I was in shock and didn't believe a thing. At first I thought it was a facebook application for some morbid game to create your obituary. But it wasn't. He passed away that night from a blood infection caused by iv drug use.

A week later, I was told by a close friend that if I were an animal, I would be an owl. My personality is just like an owl. I never thought that before and now I agree. My personality is very much like an owl. Now I'm stuck obsessing over owls, especially white ones. I have never seen a brown owl or any other owl that is common here. But the white owl is so rare and I always see it by me and usually right before something happens.

I started researching owls and found out they have a mysticism side to them. Then I read that seeing an owl on top of your house or outside your window is a WARNING that someone is going to die. This happened right before my friend died.

I'm starting to believe that the owl may be my spirit guide and is trying to protect me. I'm starting to believe that there is a magical side to these creatures. Not just owls, but every animal. When I look at my dog, I see an old soul. I feel he's been around a long time and maybe lived previous lives. Maybe someday I'll become an owl and I'll know the truth.

This is weird. Your experience doesn't prove anything, but weird enough that it is hard to believe that it is all just coincidence.

What does the fire dream mean?

You might be interested in the book Animal Speak by Ted Andrews and Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and David Carson.

I believe animals have spirit and much to teach those who would learn.

One of the very first people I ever created an online friendship with was a part native American woman who practised shamanism. I met her on yahoo games playing backgammon a few times. She was dying of cancer but said that she would send her kindred spirit, a wolf to me, when she died. We bonded over the fact that we both liked backgammon, talking whilst playing backgammon online, spirituality/metaphysics and the fact that the people around us had in a way shunned us for our alternative views. I kind of believed or believed that at the very least it might be possible at the time. At the time my mind was opening up to lots of new ways of looking at the universe.

All I saw was her picture and presumably she is dead now. I had a dream shortly after the last time I spoke to her, and in it a voice was warning me of something that I believe might have come true if i hadn't heeded the advise. So either that was real or I suffered a mild episode of delusional paranoia 12 years ago.

I believe that I had a premonition in a dream about a relative dying once a few years before that.

When put in the context of modern physics and epistemology i think the notion of spirits seems relatively commonplace.

As for the wolf spirit, haven't had anything in many year that would indicate to me that it is there guiding me somehow. I kind of feel that it's either a load of bollocks or it must have seen me acting like a punk a few times and decided i was not worth the hassle.

Yes! I was not so sure about animal spirit guides, or totem animals..but recent events have certainly made me change my beliefs...I told my story over in the Animal Spirit Guide thread in "Animism..." but to just recap...recently the Raven/Crow has entered my life in a way that made me completely change my beliefs about animal spirit guides :)
