Libya: Security Forces Kill 84 Over Three Day

Muammar Gaddafi's security forces are firing on Libyan citizens and killing scores simply because they're demanding change and accountability. Libyan authorities should allow peaceful protesters to have their say.

(New York) - Government security forces have killed at least 84 people in three days of protests in several cities in Libya, Human Rights Watch said today, based on telephone interviews with local hospital staff and witnesses.

The Libyan authorities should immediately end attacks on peaceful protesters and protect them from assault by pro-government armed groups, Human Rights Watch said.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the eastern Libyan cities of Benghazi, Baida, Ajdabiya, Zawiya, and Derna on February 18, 2011, following violent attacks against peaceful protests the day before that killed 20 people in Benghazi, 23 in Baida, three in Ajdabiya, and three in Derna. Hospital sources told Human Rights Watch that security forces killed 35 people in Benghazi on February 18, almost all with live ammunition.
"Muammar Gaddafi's security forces are firing on Libyan citizens and killing scores simply because they're demanding change and accountability," said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. "Libyan authorities should allow peaceful protesters to have their say."

Muammar Gaddafi has ruled Libya for 42 years.

Rensys reports that Libya has completely shut down their Internet as of midnight Saturday local time.

"Renesys confirms that the 13 globally routed Libyan network prefixes were withdrawn... and Libya is off the Internet. One Libyan route originated by Telecom Italia directly is still BGP-reachable, but inbound traceroutes appear to die in Palermo. A minority of our peers report some surviving paths through the peering connection between Level3 and Telecom Italia, but traceroutes into those prefixes fail, suggesting that the Libyan cutoff is complete. Supposedly the protesters are marching towards Gaddafi's main base. Fighter Jets have been shooting at the protesters.

I think it looks like a double, which would explain also the brief appearance behind umbrellas and hats. He doesn't look enough like him for a full blow TV address.

OR... he's in the process of fleeing the country and this a decoy. Why would he tell the world he is still in Tripoli at a time when there is an increasing risk of foreign intervention and his arrest for war crimes.

Delusions, look at Mubarak and Ben Ali, they both gave speeches trying to show they were still in control and working to appease the protesters each about 24 hours before being forced to step down/to go into exile.

Considering the bizarre circumstances in which he made an appearance I am surprised not more people haven't questioned the authenticity of it..

Power corrupts , absolute power corrupts absolutely !

I pray , that we all begin to finally see that tyrannical governments , greed , and ruling elite social classes , are not the answer to the worlds problems . That they are rather , harbingers to the worlds total destruction .

What evil lurks in the hearts of men . Until we learn to put the needs of others , before the needs of ourselves . That we are not individuals , that we are all connected as one human race . That what we do to others , we only do to ourselves .

The golden rule , was and is what it all about .
