UPDATE 2/22: Libyan Ambassador to the US resigns. Gaddafi raves for over an hour, threatens more violence against protesters. Gaddafi claims protesters are on hallucinogenic drugs! Protesters take control of Tobruk and border with Egypt. Libyan naval vessel off the coast of Malta may be defecting.

Shoot on sight orders keeping people off the streets in Tripoli. Dead and injured cannot be attended to, bodies lying in the streets.

The Libyan defections continue as more Libyans refuse to support the attacks upon protesters. Two Libyan colonels piloting fighter jets have defected after refusing to attack their fellow countrymen in Benghazi. They were part of a squadron that was beginning an attack, when they pulled out and fled to Malta.

The pilots were arrested by Malta authorities. The reason they went to Malta is because Italy has an extradition treaty with Libya, but Malta doesn't.

The protests continue, watch updates on Al-Jazzera

Protesters are being bombed and attacked in Tripoli. Water and Electricity have been cut to Tripoli.
I don't think this will continue for long. The International community is starting to respond forcefully, indicating that international relations will be severely damaged by the Libyan gov't's violent actions against the protesters.

Yes, the Libyans are using American-made weapons (once again) on their own people.

Do you think the US gov't would hesitate to use it's weapons against its own people as it has done before?

Libya's deputy UN Ambassador calls upon Gaddafi to resign! He says he serves the Libyan people, not the repressive Libyan government.

He says he's not worried about the reprecussions of speaking against Gaddafi, just the Libyan people.

The Libyan ambassador to the EU resigns.

I saw that too. Apparently the deputy does not know where the ambassador is at the moment.

They wouldnt hesitate. But now there would be peaceful protests from us and also an armed rebellion from the rednecks. There is a lot of rightwing paramilitary groups sitting here in the US just waiting to inflict their warped version of government on us, and they wont hesititate to cut people down in the street to do that.

Do you think the US gov't would hesitate to use it's weapons against its own people as it has done before?[/QUOTE]

Senator John Kerry said Gaddafi's actions were "beyond despicable". Libya's "use of deadly force against its own people should mean the end of the regime itself. It's beyond despicable, and I hope we are witnessing its last hours in power." He said all international oil companies "should immediately cease operations in Libya until violence against civilians ceases".

Gaddafi's 2nd in command has resigned. He was the Interior Minister, and claims he refused to have his forces fight the people. This is a major defection. He has called upon the army to rise up against Gaddafi.

Sad thing is. These leaders had to ability to make real history, go down in the history books as being real monumental figures.. Instead they all chose to go down Hitler avenue...
