ok idk if ive talked about this before, but im willing to venture that there are a fair share of nerds in the audience here tonight. or if you are uncomfortable with being called a nerd, maybe you just like stuff that is ridiculed a lot by a slight, if not grand, majority of your peers. maybe you treat some of these things like "guilty pleasures" or whatever, and you never bring these things up in discussions ever to avoid getting made fun of or whatever. (btw dont be a douchebag and say "i dont care what ppl think about me" cuz you do, everybody does, everywhere, and by denying it you sound like a pompous ass)

i know that i like quite a few things that are made fun of by popular culture. like anime (its not all hentai and shows for children fyi), comics (marvel to be specific) a bunch of Japanese music, and another music i like is hardcore music. now here is why its hard to "come out"(so to speak) and talk about these things with others: its all those embarrassing UBER-FANS that are obsessive and over the top and make not only the medium look bad, but by default you as well; so if anyone was to find out they would assume you are one of those retards too. this is especially apparent with anime, and also my music tastes.

for instance: cosplayers are the fucking worst now im not talking convention cosplayers, ill let that slide, because its a proper venue that is designated, and there are so many ppl doing it at once, the garish costumes are relatively normal, its like halloween minus candy. plus hot chicks are there doing it, so if a hotty does it, its ok (i dont make the rules, sexy girls do). However cosplayers that wear their costumes to, say, the fucking mall and chilling in the food court with their 2 friends are the problem. they make us regular folks that enjoy anime look like bad. i like anime because they actually have some really well thought out stories, and as for the action animes they can create visual effects that just cant be done with live actors and less than a 200 million dollar budget.

and music is just as bad in a different way. i say i like Japanese music and i eather get a snort of "why? you cant understand what they are singing" or "you mean where all the bands dress like girls?" or the infinitely racist "what do they sing about? how much americans suck?". what they dont get is that music isnt always about what they are singing as much as how they are singing plus like 80% of fans that attend the shows that make it to the US are obsessive fangirls drooling for the bands nuts more intensely than normal groupie fans. and Hardcore get a bad rap because ppl think all hardcore is also emo. which is not the case. sure some emo scenesters will show up at the shows, but its not even a majority. emo kids just sort of stick out like a sore thumb, and are all ppl notice.

ill stop my nerd-rage rant here (sorry guys im tweaking as i write this so i got diarrhea of the fingertips haha) but feel free to talk about some of your nerd loves that you dont necessarily hide, but like never talk about with others.

    discuss!!:]

Homie, I totally understand your frustration, but you gotta understand, the REAL problem is not the people who have found something they enjoy too much, it's the ignorance and intolerance of the general population that judges then and therefore ANYONE who enjoys any of these things in the slightest. In my experience, anything can be awesome if it isn't overproduced. I think if people realized that you wouldn't have this problem. On the other hand, soe people really need to find more worthy things to devote their lives to...

I have cosplayer friends they always go to gatherings or whatever you call those get togethers and they seem to have fun pretending to be someone else. I'd love to do it to but I don't care enough to.
I don't judge people based on a few people. Why do you even care? Do you want to be friends with people who DO do that?
If so, you should heighten your standards ;')

But I am a fangirl with something else, well I WAS, but not anymore. I kind of grew out of it, but deep down I will always be a fangirl of it. Though I feel more like I AM this thing, as if we were born of the same womb. So it is not a fangirl thing as it is a "in love with"....big difference.

hahaha joker you are the man, quite a lot. that Yoko is yummy looking. and as i said before cosplaying at conventions gets a free pass from me.

TroutLord, gotta say i agree that it shouldnt be, but unfortunately it is. oh how id love to be able to talk about my love of quality anime, or tell more ppl about my most prized possession: nearly the entire series run of Morbius: The Living Vampire comics, the best comic series about an anti-villian. and the coolest comic book vampire (back when vampires were still cool and didnt fucking sparkle). and as a side note, i LOVE your sig, The Dude is my hero. if you and i ever meet, we need to go to the bar and have a few Caucasians lmao

and Expoding Galaxies, could you be more vague?

i used to wear whatever was comfortable, including very wild overalls (rainbow fleece, fake fur camo) and i always got dirty looks. i dont think anyone should be judged for being different. its not up to anyone to decide what i wear but me. i dont get out much anymore (and thats ok, because people suck) but the problem is society. ideally the moronic masses couldnt make passionate people feel bad for being different. and it takes some balls to get out there in something you know people wont "get"

The problem is not any one. I dress differently to every one else but no one gives me dirty looks, or if they do i obviously am oblivious seeing as i'm not looking for people's reactions to me when i enter a public place.

    i love nerd-ragers

    they are the funniest.

your argument can be applied to a lot of things, such as people who enjoy modding Honda cars. They aren't all:
