It's a social group of women over fifty, who plan fun events.

 

They always sit together at public places. They wear purple dresses and red hats. And the ones in my town are snobby and mean.

 

My grandmother is one and she's rather eccentric in her own right...

My friend's father who's in the millinery (hat) business says that the demand for red hats has gone up quite a bit because of the Red Hat Society. It's apparently really popular.
