Bah! Fucking bullshit awards ceremonies.

dave grohl was awarded a "Godlike genius" award at the NME awards ceremonies this week. I watched the presenting of the award, his acceptance speech and then his live performance. My god... that guy is so overstated.

Don't get me wrong! He is a great musician. I liked Nirvana somewhat, there were OK, I wasn't daft about it like some people. And The Foo Fighters are OK. Them Crooked Vultures though... now that's a band and half!

He's a great musician, and also a bit of a geezer. His friend Kurt committed suicide 15 years and his legacy carried on. It was sad. Shit happens.

He is not a fucking god. Great drummer. Good guitarist and performer. Not the best rock voice in the world, but he is fairly versatile and has energy and stage presence.

Yeah... So do lots of other people, and many of them are more interesting and talented than he is. People just love him because he is the wacky rock drummer from Nirvana.

I fucking hate the NME, lame bastards.

Big up the Arcade Fire for accepting their award in the most interesting and modest way. The only artists to deserve their award asides PJ Harvey, whose lifetime achievement award seemed rather premature.

I would not call him god-like. But he is a good musician and a far better artist then many others today.

 

I know LOADS of musicians that are way better than him, and more deserving of the status "god-like genius"

Its fucking award ceremonies, they're always taking up whoever it is who'se in the spotlight. Its not 'the truth'. Its like storytelling and when you sensationalize the 'hero' it makes the story more interesting.

seen the foo fighters a few times, and they always had a faint whiff like they'd been sealed inside tupperware for too long ... they went through all the right motions, the shows were just a bit plasticy and flaccid

and over Julian it just shows how stupid most people are.

 

I've never hated anything he has released, it's just little of it has really sparked me up. Then Crooked Vultures is my favourite band that he has been a part of, largely due to the presence of Josh Homo and John Pricklefield of Lord ZZBottom.

I think Nirvana would be one of those bands which were good in the day but ended up losing a lot of praise due to newer material.

I thought 2 out of 4 of their albums sucked anyway, most people don't even know those 2 albums exist they just know in utero and nevermind.
