I've always thought critical mass was a cool thing, but I knew better than to get involved. I hate to say it, but critical mass + road rage = matter of time before something like this happened. If the only thing standing between you and death is common courtesy, your life is hanging by a thread.

    Loading the video now.

Did they at least get the motherfucker?

*edit* ahh, read the link.... Looks like the thing to do would be for each and every cyclist to pull a daily "critical mass" thingy, a general show of force, presence, and solidarity in that area.

Burn your car. But put your television in it first.

Personally I dislike bikers because they ignore the rules of the road, such as stopping at stopsigns, yet they bitch at me for not considering them real traffic.

I'm imaging an engineering solution to prevent something like this from happening again, like a trailer pulled by the back cycles, so that if someone tries to ram, it would jam underneath their tires.

how would you prevent a head on collision?..
the bikes travel roads past parked cars, and could be attacked from the side aswell..

Police escorts wouldnt prevent a crazy person either, they many not even see a police unit in a crowd like this which only needs one or 2 patrol cars/ motorbike. crazy person would just run over motor bike cops, and swerve around a car.. and just keep on going..

    Yeahh...

I stop at all signs, and pick up again faster than the cars behind me, who often honk for making THEM stop like they should.

And if I break a traffic law and cause a crash, my bike weighs 26.5lbs, your car probably weighs more than 2000. If I hit a vehicle, nothing happens to anyone but me, and if I hit anyone else, it's many thousands of times safer than if I do it in a car.

Boy, you ain't got room to squirm.

*edit* though I don't have a speedometer, I must admit that I think I frequently speed, if only to make a point to douchebags in cars pushing up on me and shit just because they can, because my slow kiddie transportation totally doesn't deserve any respect. I put their multi ton diesel penis extension in it's place. Ya don't need four wheel drive when you can pick your vehicle up ;)

there's really no iron clad way of protecting anyone from danger in every possible situation.

a trailer could possibly make things safer though

I believe you are referring to the cow catcher?

I'm not sure how much damage a cow could do on most of the locomotives they where equipped on, but on very small/narrowgague lines, like with a 2-4-0 or some shit, it could seriously fuck shit up.

Sort of like driving a truck with a grill guard.... Free steak, no hunting license.

If you want to be part of traffic, you have to follow the rules of the road. I will say that I did not when I rode my bike all the time.

Shit, I wanna ride my bike now.

I love my drops. I also have an old mountain bike I once pulled out of a snowbank that I'd like to rebuild, as some sort of hybrid with drops and generally a wannabe dumpster cyclocross style setup. When I'm in your front yard or a dry creek, there aren't any traffic rules to worry about :p
