What would you do, and with how much money?

so, im watching Inside Job, and thinking a lot about money. and every time i see the amounts of money that people made cheating, conniving, etc it kinda makes me want to vomit. the sizes of bonuses... how do you even use that much money? (i know the answer, hookers and blow.)

and i thought, what amount would it take for you to fulfill your current goals?
if everyone could simply be handed an amount of money, what would they do with what amounts?
if someone just gave everyone a onetime gift of $10k, $20k, etc what would YOU do at each level?

i want a farm, and some land. to cover all those types of expenses, and enough to get a good start, i would need $200,000-300,000
however, if i had just $20,000 i could have a hefty down payment and some start up cash. it seems such a pittance in comparison. if i had money beyond what i could use, id help others. id invest in technologies that help us. id buy the rights to Firefly.
im just trying to think in a way that makes me feel better. this is definitely one of those documentaries i have to pause and watch some Carlin to feel better.

 

the us government gave me a check for 24k ... I didnt manage it right, made decisions to buy homes, and flaunt the rest on drugs and the grateful dead.. guess it was 1/2 right ..

 

hmm I would buy a bunch of farm land and invite all yall to come live for the cost of taxes and upkeep divided by the number of people, fair enough. big happy hippie city

yeah i'd just buy an old building here in KC or somewhere else with neat old (and cheap) architecture and just do whatever the hell i wanted in there.

or i'd take my legal case to appeals court and use the rest of the money to pay some of my college/grow op

 

I would embezzle the entire budgets of the DEA, FBI, and CIA, and use them to buy doses for every american, and as many as I could for foreign aid.

 

I would invest everything, or buy houses and fix them up to sell. Once you have money it's SO easy to make money, it's just getting started that's tough.

But if I had to buy something for myself I'd just put the money towards my education or a house.

If I had to blow it all on something that wouldn't really benefit me it would be a trip to the moon

 

I'm fortunate to be in that position. I've come into some money in the last couple of years that was unexpected. I'm looking to buy my dream property and settle in to enjoy it for however much time I have left.

 

if sumone gave me 10 stacks i wuld fly to jamaica and get high fo a month strait

i wuld spend the rest on vodka and viagara

 

i'd like to own some land with a fishable stream... I'd say something ideal around here would run about $250k.. would probably then farm sustainably for the household... i'd like to have about $10k for "toys" snowmobile and boat... would like to own a dependable awd vehicle preferably a subaru and get a pop-up.. basically gimme $300k and i can live the dream

 

i'd be good with 50k or so.

i dont need a whole building. cheap loftspace can be bought even cheaper and then i could start up some printing business. and a grow op

 

I guess the point of this thread is to name how much you need to achieve your current goals. Maybe I'm just greedy :crowngrin: but I could easily blow through several million.

Talking immediate, tangible goals?
-About $30k to vaporize my college debt.
-$2k for credit card debt.
-$100k to pay off all my family's debt

Near-present to future goals/wants?
-$5mil for a Château on Lake Como as my permanent home, and an apartment in NYC, LA, and Thailand

-Enough money to travel everyday for the rest of my life comfortably
-Money just for partying and friends. Probably a couple millie

£2 million on small but modest stately home out in the sticks. 40k on bass guitars and amps and a further 1 million in bank to pay for the up keep and to live on.

 

I want a farm as well. I think I could buy a decent plot of land for $100,000-$200,000. Maybe another $100,000 to build cheap housing for all my friends that also want a communal farm, yurts and underground hobbit houses and such. Another $50,000 for initial investments on any equipment we would need..also we would want to throw music festivals on the farm so part of that would go towards building an ampitheatre.

Hmm..maybe another $100,000 the first year or so, the time when we're trying to get everything started and working towards self sufficiency, so that no one would have to work and everyone could focus on the farm and artistic pursuits.

I feel like I'm being greedy, I don't think it would even cost that much to accomplish my goals.

I would also like a few hundred thousand dollars to give to my mom so that she could retire, fix up her house (its a great house, she raised four kids in that house, but it needs a little bit of work) and never worry about money again. I don't think she has a retirement fund at all and that worries me..the only reason I have a drive to earn a substantial amount of money at all is so that I can help her retire comfortably.

oh, i would also like a little bit of money to travel. Aside from plane tickets, I can get by very cheaply whenever I travel.

 

I would like a house with a balcony out my room. And a world pool bath tube. And a nice deck out back like my aunt’s house has. I would love to take a trip to Hawaii and a trip to Vegas. Give some money to my family

 

1 million would go to cleaning the ocean.



seriously look at all of that.

two million would go into paying mexicans to grow marijuana,coke,heroine and opium, increasing my budget by probably about another million. soon after that i probably would be dead by OD

another half million would go into buying land / building stage / working out a system for a place to throw a festival every weekend, where i would take all the drugs grown by my mexicans and sell to all the fans at the music festival.
and the rest of what ever i would have would consist of me walking around paying people to do funny things, and recording it, selling the tapes. making more money.

i always said if i ever had a large sum of money i would pay people to think of crazyshit, then i would pay other people to do it. people would do anything for money. cant put a price on a laugh.

oh an also one more essential for anyone who enjoys psychedelics

but anyways from the sounds of it several million is only going to give me billions. its all what you do with your cash.

50,000 and i'm out to fucking belize or thailand, prolly thailand, but that'd be enough to get me at least 20 years or so in one of them nice, hella affordable countries. too bad america is a bitch.

 

I would take 100,000 bucks. A lot of it to pay off my college debt, and the rest to move out of Pennsylvania and find a decent home.
