    Thanks Gardenguy,

I don't avoid the regular beaches, although I'm not much of a beach goer I did go several times this past summer. I go in the late afternoon to avoid the sun, but I do avoid the clothing optional beach we used to go to since my last time there. When I went with x I was not approached by anyone, but unfortunately all or most of the men I was approached by were regulars there! I don't think this is really a nudist beach. And it was a huge disappointment to have to deal with all of this.

Well if I ever have another relationship again, I will definitely want someone who is in to nudity, but as you say that is no guarantee of success.

Yes my relatives are not nudists at all. I think I was always semi nudist at heart, but x is the first one I met who actually practiced it to a degree. I do feel sort of embarrassed at the nude beach as I don't feel I can trust the men and I'm not naturally outgoing usually. I have only gone topless there.

Me too, I'm not completely used to it but I would like more freedom to do it.

Nanee, if you are a little bit shy and are still learning how to be confident in just your skin, going to a clothing optional beach all by yourself is not a good "next step". In fact, unless you have an organized nudist group to protect you, you are almost guaranteed a lot of rude pushy guys making pests of themselves on American beaches. And I have seen a fair amount of disrespect at clothed beaches. In Europe or the Caribbean, your chances of being treated with respect are much better.

I have every hope that Americans will learn the concept of respect in some future age, but don't let the slow progress of culture prevent you from enjoying a day outdoors the way humans were meant to.

You've got a toe in the water with this nudity thing, but I encourage you to find a family-oriented nudist campground or resort to visit. I have never met a more caring and supportive bunch of people. If you don't want to be totally naked, you may not be allowed in the water, but most nudist venues are very understanding with people who are not ready for total nudity.

Since you may be a little shy, there's the additional factor of visiting a place where you don't know anyone, but I am sure that if you give it a chance, you will make friends on day 1 and on your return visit find an even warmer welcome and find more confidence within yourself.

Many people talk of social nudity as if they were going to be up on stage singing a solo to a huge audience. It's easy to second guess and surmise that everyone would be looking at us, but it's really not like that.

There's a wonderful moment when you forget that you are not wearing clothes. You are content in just your skin.

Just because you are not wearing clothes, does not mean that you are naked. You are a whole person just like you are!

    Hi Gardenguy,

I have been at beaches in Europe where people could go nude, partially nude or not, nudity was not a big deal the way it is in the US unfortunately, so I totally agree on that... I may try visiting a colony one day... I will probably have to travel to do that as I don't think there are any near where I live, but I would feel better with a partner to do that. I know what you mean about feeling free, as long as it's warm enough it's a great feeling.

You have been on CO European beaches, that's great! You have already seen "normal", then.

Not sure what section of the nation you live in, but if you visit AANR Web site, (American Association for Nude Recreation), you can figure out which is the closest place to you.
By the way, we call them nudist resorts, camps or parks depending on how developed they are. "Colony" is a term that is a bit dated and rubs some of us the wrong way. (I did not take offense).

It definitely would be more fun with an acquaintance, but if your friends dig in their heels and absolutely refuse, don't deny yourself this wonderful thing.

If your travels take you to Georgia, get in touch with me!

thanks gg... yes I have seen normal.. I remember at that time I was embarassed I was a teenager and I didn't not want to change without covering myself with a towel at one beach. Sorry about the use of colony, I'm not aware of any of the terms much... I will check out AANR. I'm in NY- will do if i get to Georgia.

Some people don't half talk a lot of rot. How can you comfortable naked if either it is too cold or more to the point you are in a situation where nudity is just not acceptable. I am happy being naked in the following situations:
At home and in the garden alone or with my partner.
On a beach where nudity is accepted even if I am the only one naked at the time.
Any where where nudity is expected, that includes being a life model where everyone around you is clothed.

However to be nude in front of others who do not share our views is something that few of us could be relaxed about. I know there are few exhibitionists who enjoy behaving like that but they are a small minority of naturists.

i love beeing nude as a feeling of freedom too it but i dislike that the nude human form was turned completely into a target for sexual addiction so i stay clothed for the people around me`s peace of mind but whenm alone i almost never where cloths

I'd like to say that yes, I am. I enjoy being naked, prefer being naked, and do it at any given opportunity. I've not had too much opportunity as of yet, though I suppose I should look into things like local nudist places. The issue I come across is that typically they are distrusting - at best - of single men. I can understand why, as well.

Ah well, nudity in private at least.

Absolutely! A card carrying nudist btw. I've been a practicing nudist since I was a child. Parents could not keep clothes on me.

Hiriako, don't give up so soon! Try some of the non-landed clubs.
They tend to be more progressive and with them, you might gain admission as a group to a resort when as individuals you might not get in. Plus the better clubs have plenty of activities on their own.

Non landed? I'm not familiar with the term.

Do you mean a club that doesn't own property? I suppose it would be useful to try and find some. I really need to try and find one of these. Some of the websites that've been posted around here seem to no longer be valid. I'm in the Pittsburgh area, at present. Any suggestions?

The easiest way to find destinations that are still active is to go to the website for the American Association for Nude Recreation, AANR. Then look on the gray bar for the menu item that says, "Places to Go". When you hover your mouse over it, you get a drop-down menu. Second item on the list is: "Club Locator"

    Yep! Pick that one.

In the Club Locator page, you probably don't want to pick the state listing for Pennsylvania only since you are so close to Ohio and not so close to Philly off to the east.

Instead, scroll down and search by zip code.
By the way, don't check the box for landed only this time, because you might like to see the non-landed clubs as well. Just as often we call them travel clubs. Your guess was right! They are naturist clubs that usually don't own their own campground or resort. But I was in such a club and one of our members had a swimming pool and lots of acreage to roam. When this club was active, they used to go on road trips, nude beaches, visit resorts, and just meet other members for cookouts, hot tub parties, pool parties and the like.
One or two clubs actually manage to rent health clubs on Friday nights some of which have weight lifting machines, steam, sauna, Olympic-sized pools on and I've seen 50 or more people attend these things. We sent for pizza, watched a big football game and entire families would come, but a good number of single people too. I have met some very nice single women at these things.

Maybe this will give you more things to do.

I am 48…had a tough younger life with some people in my life that said things to me that have haunted me for many years. I can tell you that most men and women love the way I look (tall , blonde, athletic build and look about 35-38). Took many many years to shred the "insecurities" that haunted me. People I know could never understand. A few years ago I met a wonderful man 15 years my senior, a nudist/swinger. I fell deeply in love but had a hard time even going naked in our own home much less swinging…and he never pushed, he loved me and said that it didn't matter if I never wanted to swing. I eventually laid out nude sunning alone…not easy, finally around him and then to the nude beach…I am reformed and I feel/saw the beauty everyone has always told be that I was…we have had a few experiences at swinging, because I wanted to…and I had NO jealousy or worries that someone might not like my body…this has been the most liberating time of my life…I am truly blessed to have shed that baggage that I carried for 30 years…never been happier…learning to love yourself is a beautiful thing  View attachment 48133

Swinging is to nudism as rock climbing is to nudism.
Some people are both, but there's no reason to link the two.
