Lately life has been really stressful. And i cant seem to gett myself together. I over think every situation and that turns into more stress. Before i would just smoke alittle to mellow out. But since i cant no longer smoke:/ i have nothing to keep my emotions in check. Ive been trying yoga and my mind just cant seem to stay focused. So i was just wondering some ways other people mellow out that might help me gett back to being chill.

Are you artistic at all? Many people find venting their worries, frustrations, and anger through writing it out, drawing, even dancing. What I realized helps for me is that half the time I'm not mellow its this vague sense of unease I have. When I recognize that its there I ask myself, "why am i stressin?" and i see that theres really no reason, or that its from one trivial event that set me off earlier in the day that I haven't analyzed into its proper context yet. So basically id say try to be more attuned to your feelings and understand their source.

counting breaths til the thoughts slow down (meditation in one form).. deep exhales, could probably be helpful. try to only work with this moment, and not the imaginary screen plays. good luck

Yea I can relate to this. My life is constant stress whether it's real or made up in my head. I've found strenuous exercise really helps. I know you tried yoga, but nothing works like a hard 30minute ride on a stationary bike, or a hard few miles on the treadmill. Hope you feel better soon!

Yea, keep your hands busy or focus on your breathing, and just remind yourself that none of it really matters and it will be over soon enough so don't let yourself be overwhelmed or too concerned.

I love the word neurosis for this. It puts the negative things you're going through into a neat little box which I can picture. When I experience these things I then take the box and make it / allow it to dissolve / dissipate. I don't sweep it to the back of my mind or stuff it in a corner. I just let it melt away.

Whenever I notice my state of mind drifting to a place that's less than optimal I think of the words doubt, anxiety, fear, and neurosis. Once I define what's negatively affecting me, it's much easier to deal with.

If there are facts about your life that are genuinely causing you doubt, anxiety, and fear, it's necessary to confront them. Continually repressing them might lead to the symptoms you're experiencing. Being unsure about your financial security or career can be a very tough problem to attack. The same is true of dating or longing for a fulfilling relationship. The bright side is there's always a way to attack a problem. Ask big questions about what you might have doubts about, then break those questions down into actionable goals and ATTACK them. Come up with some useful, actionable goals and then fulfill them. If you're not ready to attack in this fashion, be ready to continue experiencing these neuroses.

    meditation worked for me.

How long have you not been smoking? I noticed for the first month after I stopped, I was very angry all the time...so it could be from that.

Finding new hobbies or things you like doing will also work. Good luck!
