here is what i think happened at some point in history.... evil thinking pseudo scientific cave person: 'This person is pissing me off. I'm really sick of them picking their nose, making fun of my club and trying to get between my ol' lady's legs. Wonder what I could do to mess them up?hmmm.....I GOT IT! I'LL INVENT A WORD THAT CAUSES THEM TO BE A SOCIAL PARIAH!!!.....hmmm.....CRAZY! I'LL CALL THEM CRAZY! got a nice ring to it." over time, this cave person is so intense, so persistent in the use of the word crazy for any behaviour he does not approve of, the word catches on.... eventually, there develops a whole clique of people who 'claim to understand what makes a person crazy'; they develop their own handshakes, their own 'couched in obscurity language'...it's an exclusive club. and, the best part, just like on 'Survivor', they are 'immune' from being called crazy in almost all cases. their sayings, their writings become so oblique, so twisted, so calculated to make everyone who is not in the club feel inferior....that everyone else questions 'am i crazy? how would i know? maybe i should see someone in the club...a haruspice....and see if they will tell me???'. duh to the rest of us.
