This is pretty amazing- "These fungi control ant behavior with mind-altering chemicals, then kill them. They're part of a large family of fungi that create chemicals that mess with animal nervous systems. Once infected by spores, the worker ants, normally dedicated to serving the colony, leave the nest, find a small shrub and start climbing. The fungi directs all ants to the same kind of leaf: about 25 centimeters above the ground and at a precise angle to the sun (though the favored angle varies between fungi). How the fungi do this is a mystery. "It's related to the fungus that LSD comes from," Hughes said. "Obviously they are producing lots of interesting chemicals." Before dying, ants anchor themselves to the leaf, clamping their jaws on the edge or a vein on the underside. The fungi then takes over, turning the ant's body into a spore-producing factory. It lives off the ant carcass, using it as a platform to launch spores, for up to a year. " http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/03/zombifying-ant-fungus/?pid=1060&viewall=true
Trippy shit. It reminded me of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8"]YouTube - Cordyceps: attack of the killer fungi - Planet Earth Attenborough BBC wildlife
Yea it's amazing that there are organisms that can take control of living things. It's said that we wouldn't be here without viruses changing our DNA so that they could survive and possibly making us smarter.
" Heidmann believes that without endogenous retroviruses mammals might never have developed a placenta, which protects the fetus and gives it time to mature, which eventually led to live birth, one of the hallmarks of human evolutionary success over birds, reptiles, and fish. Eggs cannot eliminate waste or draw the maternal nutrients required to develop the large brains that have made mammals so versatile. “These viruses made those changes possible. It is quite possible that, without them, human beings would still be laying eggs.”" http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/03/did-ancient-vir.html It is no secret that viruses have affected the human gene map -- studies have shown that 8 percent of the genome is made up of so-called endogenous retroviruses, which incorporate their genetic code into ours. Reading stuff like that makes me wish even more that I was stoned. haha Trippy shit, but it makes sense. BTW, you have 666 posts:devil:
This is a great thread to wake n bake to. What if this fungus mutates to infect mammals, even humans? we're all screwed
I disagree. I wouldn't want to go mad and then be overcome by the fungus. but that guy kinda resembles you IMO.
it's related to the fungus that lsd comes from... here's some food for thought.... what if lsd is just an advanced form of ergot fungus that alters people's perceptions when they trip to match that of the 'blueprint' of the ergot fungus family. in a similar way that these fungi affect the behavior of ants to match a specific criteria, the ergot derivative is just altering our perception to match it's criteria. all the insight that people gain from lsd is just a result of the symbiosis between homo sapiens and the ergot fungus.
if it's a fungus that releases aerial spores, traditional zombie survival wisdom will have to change to include full-body hazmat suits that can't be torn.
He also fucks his sister via some other guy's body. That didn't make me think of you. and yes ive seen it, but not the whole thing. I kept dozing off in the second half of it, but I saw the end.. Im actually gonna start rewatching it right now.
hahaha I guess you could say he was fucking his sister, but only kinda. lol Which version are you watching? The full/long version(160+ minutes) or the short version?
