Hi Joel, no intrussion, your welcome here to speak and contribute. Yes, Euell Gibbons was one of the first to go public in Natural Survival. My Father was a great fan of his and had some of his books. He was a wealth of knowledge. I would think if you had one Good Book that covered basics that the rest could be improvised. A learn as you go type thing.

I just hope that it is not as bad as it seems and that we all will survive.

I think there is a Halawa valley on the north end of the big island too. Almost bought an acre there back in '72. Screwed up and didn't. Oh why oh why did I ever leave Hawaii?

Yes Kenny that was an invite!! lol. But that was why I also mentioned the ark as to get there we need to cross the Pacific and that will be a problem! But damn the Valley is so so ready for alternative living because there have been about 10 - 20 of us who for the last 30 years have just made the place a really OFF GRID 20 great place for farming and living. Utilizing the Old Hawaiian methods and irragation systems that were there, the old taro lois that were there were easy to repair. Adding the modern abilitys to create energy from Sun, Water, and Wind we now have plenty of OFF GRID power potential. We did this not because of end of world worries but becaues we had a HUGE VALLEY that we basically became been the Stewards who are living there. We have just done what was needed to make living in a achient place where aboriginal peoples lived for over 1300 years able to continue to provide mana to us while take care of the land. It is truly an amazing place! BUT yes remote and thus problematic for travel to get there!!

I am letting you all know that if you can get there you will be able to make it with us who do get there!!!

Also Cakes we do get North EAST trades NOT the air currents/paths of the Japan Air fallout. But I am praying for all and the Planet that the reactors there do not meltdown as this will be bad all over.

Also regarding locations...Molokai/Hawaii is the farthest Island Chain (the main group anyway) from ALL Continantants (sp) on the planet. The Closest Large land mass is over 2,600 miles in any direction with the U.S. mainland and parts of South America being the closesest Continants. So there will not be the MASSES to contend with. BUT...Yep travel will be difficult. I truly wish we still had the place on Cow Creek in Orygun as that was also a very safe feeling place with good Energy!!

Anyway Kenny check out the NPS Study about Halawa Valley Molokai' It WILL BLOW your mind!! You will see my place in some of the few pictures in the report. IF it does not blow your mind then you are not invited !!! lol

    TC all
    peace and love

Yes, but can I buy or barter for a good used surf board and can anyone there teach me to surf. Much more importantly is there any good surf there???

I never learned to surf in the 60s, Always wanted to surf. And that's on my retirement list. (Bucket list.)

Is this a good link for what you are trying to show me or can you post a better link for all to see?
    http://www.nps.gov/pwrh/minkstdy/HalawaB.htm

Guess What? I copied and pasted "NPS Study about Halawa Valley Molokai" out of your sentence, and pasted it into a Google search.

You posted your post at 1:00 p.m. Don't know what time zone. It probably converts the time into my time zone, anyway.

I searched Google at 2:30 p.m. Guess what the fifth listing on page one was.

Boy, this is the fastest and newest spying software that Federal Government Grey Ops can buy. Pretty cool huh? Of course everything is put on their super computers. They don't even bother to pick and chose any longer. Just store the whole World Wide Web. Just a heads-up from me a computer professional.
Think that I'm kidding about me being a computer professional? I even worked here a couple of times. http://www.nyse.com/
    Have cap. Install feather.

Now. I've simply pulled a segment of a random sentence that you typed.
we basically became been the Stewards who are living there.
A google search of this will come up as number 1 on the search answers Google page.
    Surprise!

Folks usually think that I'm kidding about this kind of stuff.

Now available for Windows. Originally a Mac software program, SiteSucker has been a round for years and years. Totally automatic. You go to any home page and click GO. It then downloads the entire website onto your computer. All that you need is enough hard drive space to put the website on. Me, I have a 1 terabyte external drive to save stuff on. I think it only cost me $150. Terabyte? That's 1000 Gigabytes, or a million Megabytes. Maybe fit all of the forums and pictures at Hipforums.com The whole thing.

Just a heads-up. Always be careful about what you say on the phone and put online. Everybody. Be aware. Always act accordingly. From your buddy.

I am letting you all know that if you can get there you will be able to make it with us who do get there!!!

Here's my thinken. You are familiar with the U.S. west coast. You probably know some marinas.

I sail. A twenty-six footer in the S.F. bay, but I sail. Pretty good and no fear. Star and sun knowledge.

You're roughly 2 hours standard time off of Cal. 1 hour around the Earth west/east is approx 15 degrees. So, you're double that going west. Double 15 is 30 degrees. 1 degree = 60 nautical miles. 60 miles times 15 equals 900. Double that is 1,800 naut miles. So, you guys are a minimum of 1,800 naut miles west.

I figure by glancing at a map with degree lines on is that your approx 15 degree south of L.A. As said before, 60 miles times 15 equals 900. So you're at least 900 miles dead south from L.A.

If I have my watch I can figure dead west reckoning If the sun says noon and your watch says 2:00 p.m. you are approx as west as you need to go. E/W is the tough part if it.

North to South measure is simpler. A sextant is a protractor. If ya draw a right angle, on a broad board, that is 90 degrees. Just mark the middle, split the difference, and make a line, and that's 45 degrees. Mark out the 2 points that at thirdsey of the 90 degree and you've got 30, 30, and 30 degrees. 30, 60, 90. Mark half of 30 degrees for 15 degrees. Done.

You measure your starting point. Say, dead noon sun in L.A. How high off of dead south is it. How many degrees high? Write it down. Now you need to realize the the Earth does tilt by 23.4° degrees from summer to winter to summer again. So, you need to read real sun location off of the south horizon. Why? because in 6 months time it will all change by 23.4°. That's why.

I could look up Los Angeles is 34° 3' 8" North of the Equator, but that will just confuse my seasonal real measurements. The only real thing that that would be any good for is to figure that Hawaii is in fact 13 degrees dead south of L.A. by subtracting Hawaii's equator distance 21° 6' 35" N from the L.A. equator distance 34° 3' 8" North. Subtracting gets 13 - 3' I could simply mark the L.A. noon Sun sighting on my board and then mark 13 degrees less on the board, and then I would also need to add or subtract some amount by whether the sun is going higher toward the summer solstice or lower to the south horizon going toward the winter solstice. A 6 month change. And I would reason a fudge for final location. Because Hawaii is an island chain that stretches east to west, anyone doing a final approach to the islands from the north would find them a pretty board target. Real big. Just look at any map. Then you island hope.

I would figure the rough total travel time, first. The web says 2,560 miles from L.A. You got 2,600 miles. Same diff. Like 4 hours sailing, pretty much.

If you think a measly 10 nautical miles per hour by sail, here's the calc: 10 times 24 hours, 240 N miles per day. 2,600 naut miles divided by 240 n miles per day would equals 10.833333 days. Not as bad as one might figure. At only 5 nautical miles an hour that still 21,666666 days time. Double.

Please notice that I'm not counting on finding any gas or electric.

You're all talking about some kind of Science Fiction scenario where everybody else has shot each other. And I would figure that more folks are headed inland from the California coast looking for fresh water springs and live game. Is that your picture???

So, I'd figure that a month later the cities are thin with people and no one is hanging out at a salt water only, marinas, from L.A. to San Diego. What would they drink? You could pick and chose your own vessel. I'd look for a sail boat from 40 to 80 foot. need at least 3, 8 hour shifts of 2 people each counting myself. Or more for safety if some one gets sick or hurt. I can teach anybody to sail a course. That ain't hard. Carry and stock water and food for the time period, plus find dive gear and spear guns for food along the way to Hawaii.

The boat would be the easy part. Water, food, and folks might take some work. The rest is just an adventure. A sizable boat in the islands would be a business tool.

Anyone wish to send me a PM about crewing?

Do you have hamburgers in the Halawa Valley? LOL

Love ya Chris. Can I bring Mr. Machine? He's fun. And skilled at lots of stuff.

So, now does it sound like a problem?

Course, we could always go to Or. or North Cal. and fall a redwood and burn out a big dugout and then fall some outriggers for it. Lots of line and a mast and sail, and we're good. We'd show up with the longest King outrigger that the islands have ever seen. Dan and Mouseman and Ranger can help me burn out the middle. Note that there's always a way. :sunny:

It's a drag about Owsley. He freed so very many of us. He freed so many people. A drag. I feel for his family. I never met him. Or if I did, I didn't know by name.

A true Renaissance Pioneer of the Ages. He'll obviously go down in long range history with Sir Isaac Newton, Columbus, Mme. Marie Curie, and Henry Ford. He changed the would.

    Dan, Mr.

It's so great to hear the sound of your voice! It's like no time has passed. Like real magic. Great video and I'm loving hearing the sound of your voice on the vid. Wonderful.

    Cakesisisis,

A really nice pick. Thanks. E-mailed Rita and Ranger you number. If they don't give you a phone call, then I'm taking all of the money back. Muahaahaahaa.

    Mouseman

Which reminds me of Mouseman's last post. Him saying "Muahaahaahaa." Speaking of Mouseman.
    To Wit:
Talked to Ranger and especially Golden Rita, Sunday, as they were packing up at their swap meet. Rita says that he's just saying that she keeps bitching and nagging at him about the heart thing. You know. Standard Guy Crap. She asked me to help out by talking to him. I told her that I'd love to, but he looks at me like I'm his kid brother, me being 5 years younger. He's super stubborn, and he won't listen to anyone.

I told her that I think that He will only listen to the folks that are the same age as he is. Folks that are his age or older. Not me. Folks his age that he respects. Like Mouseman and Zev, and friends that are near 65 and older like Stacy. That's why I tried to push Mouseman and Eden to take over with taking with him.

Me, I give up. Totally. I know Ranger all to well. He's my very dear long time Bro.

I love him to death, but he's stubborn as all Hell and he totally doesn't listen to me.

He's had 5 days of angina attacks in a row. He's on Nitro for his heart. He's in total denial about all of it. And Rita can't talk to him.

    Mouseman!

I'm hoping that you two can look him in the eye, on your way back home. Talk cool logic to him, as I know You can, My "Brother Heart". Only you can move him. Eden can't.

    So, my tears go.

It's not for me to be on his case. I totally give up. It's up to ALL of you. Mouseman, Zev, Darrel, and Steven and Dan and Mary.

    I Cry

Ya'll may find this hard to believe, but the VA called yesterday to put off my appointment two days because the Doc is sick! Rita will vouch for that . call her.
This island invite has really given me something to look forward tp. Old Koniohai (sp?) was the one place we lived when I was a kid that I ever really wanted to go back to.

Oh that eye dropper at the Blue House!! So that's who that guy was! Between that and the Sandoz (remember the cough drops?!) any other lysergic-di-freakamide was hardly worth doing! Sail on brother Owlsley, and thanks for the good times!

So, I got to talk to Ranger & Rita on the phone on Sunday; that felt real fine. He (they) sounded good. Ranger. we know that the VA is slow moving but ya gotta keep on them, and we are all counting on you; you've gotta be your own advocate or they will let you sit on the bench (Group "W" bench?).

Heather & I are still doing the Kettle Corn thing here in Florida; hey, the weather is mostly good and (you won't believe this) we went to Disney's Epcot center and had a ball!!

    Much love to all!!
