do you think it is better to
hold your anger and frustration inside you, or
    release it into/onto the world?

i think it can be the opposite too -
sometimes acting on your anger is a way to hold onto it,
and not acting on it is a way to
    release yourself...

I think it's better to realize that anger is pointless, and really only affects yourself.

Anger doesn't have to be destructive.......... Although sometimes causing destruction out of anger can be a shit load of fun.

not really, what you're feeling affects everyone around you to an extent.
for example, whenever my mom is really stressed from work, it makes me a wreck too.

great thread. I feel that people should express their discomfort while forgetting anger.

in one issue of Skeptic magazine i read, it had an article of debunked urban myths, 'bottling up emotion' being one of them. its not emotions that get bottle up, its the expression of them that gets repressed. and it actually said studies show that acting out in anger only perpetuates angry feelings/emotions, as with calmed happy feelings.

release all your anger in one ecstatic, joyful, earth shattering, spine bending, toe curling, orgasm (preferably before breakfast) and you'll find your whole day to be much more calm and serene :mickey:

Ideally I'd say no emotion(s) is meant to be internalized and allowed to fester. Things inside will always manifest themselves, sometimes physically. Raging Bull was a good example.

It's kind of funny how fragile most people are. Even though a lifetime may not be very long, humans have been expressing the same handful of emotions for hundreds of thousands of years and yet many still feel inhibited when it comes to expressing anger, love, sadness, happiness. Afraid to tell someone how we really feel, afraid to get angry in public, etc.

It's pretty similar to society in general being so inhibited with regard to sexuality. Everyone has emotions, everyone is sexual in some way, why pretend we're not mad, or not in love with someone, or not sexual?

for society to work, it is necessary to hold in your anger until an appropriate moment to release it. otherwise, you would go into mcdonalds and order a big mac, and the person behind the counter would reply "FUCK YOU YOU GODDAMNED SONOFABITCH! I HOPE YOU DIE AND BURN IN HELL!" and then throw said big mac in your face.

When I am angry I like to use the energy for something creative like playing a fiery song on the piano or something. Just yelling or blowing up at someone is not a good thing. I prefer to do something constructive with it.

I think Charlie Sheen gave a good example of what we should do with our anger...

it is hard to express emotions, definitely.
to release emotions freely, without thinking about them, just letting them pass directly into action...
but then i know plenty of people who - for them - it is hard to not be very expressive, to be very emotional. to keep themselves in check is hard...
so how to find a middle ground??

i think there is a mind-centric way, and a heart-centric way to deal with your emotions/feelings.
and if you are always thinking and "on" and "in-your-head", then maybe you should take yourself and your mind out of the equation - and become more reactionary and instinctual... more visceral...

and if you are a visceral, heart-oriented person, who is quick to act - then maybe you should impose your mind on your emotions.. stop yourself before you act or say anything, and check yourself before you wreck yourself.

that is the best thing to do! definitely.
i like to play guitar when i am angry, to just jam in a very aggressive way...
i find it usually turns into something creative, so eventually it becomes a positive and uplifting thing, that i feel very good about :2thumbsup:

when people are in a bad mood, a group music jam can be a good way to bring them out of it...

I dont hold them in...and I dont spit them out...I let them slowly digest and then shit them out in the morning and flush them away never to be seen again.
