Even though from memory he wrote and or directed it. Pretty much anyone else in the lead besides Ben Affleck, and this would have been an awesome movie
I thought Ben Affleck was actually really good in the lead. Jeremy Renner was INCREDIBLE. And Affleck's direction was amazing. Great movie all around. That being said, I got the BluRay with the extended edition.. watch it if you are curious, but fair warning, it's really not worth the time. It extends the movie from a perfect length of just over 2 hours, to an almost excruciating 2 and a half hours. It seems a lot of drug-related content was cut from the theatrical cut. Most of the added scenes are slow, and really screw up the pace of the film. Also, there is a really great scene in the theatrical cut between Ben Affleck's character and Rebecca Hall's character, where he explains his backstory. In the extended cut, this scene kind of cheesily takes place on a boat instead of its original location, which isn't TOO bad, until you add in the fact that the original scene pops up later in the film and you get to hear the same story again! Trust me, stick to the theatrical cut. It's a solid, wonderful film.
I just rented the movie this weekend and it was great :2thumbsup: I’m originally from Massachusetts so I know the area well including charlestown. Note: too bad they tore down the old charlestown state prison because if he were caught that’s likely where he would have ended his days in charlestown Hotwater
The difference between Renner and Affleck was why it stuck out Affleck wasnt really right for the role, yes it may be described as his best work, but he's never going to be an A Grade actor. Felt like the lead should have been played by someone a little more badass, with a rougher looking head
I loved this movie. I love the Irish gang scene and feel. With the boston attitude? it tops it. I like ben in this movie. he got pumped up and did really well in this. I also like that they never really ended up back together. Leaves something to think about. i'd rate this movie a ten :2thumbsup:
Jeremy Renner= great Joe Pesci-esque performance IMO Wouldn't like to be going out with that guy's sister.. What a nut job! EDIT- and here he is getting an oscar nomination for best supporting actor http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the...s_tour_83rd_academy_awards_oscar_nominations/ Going to definitely sit down with a few smokes and watch this again, I think Affleck did a commendable job. :hurray::cheers2:
As for the acting, I say Affleck and Renner pulled a more than solid job. I think the two who suprised me the most were Jon Hamm and Blake Lively. Both are excellent on television but I wasn't sure they were 'big screen' capable until now. Overall, the casting was great (even if I do agree that Affeck should have a rougher head). On the directing front Affleck did another good job. I say he is 2-for-2 behind the camera. My only gripe here is the ending. Going through this whole gritty, action/ drama to end up showing him on the porch with the soft lighting of the sunset was reminiscent of a cheesy spaghetti western. The bad guy with a heart rides off into the sunset, a man changed by the story just told. But hell, it didn't ruin it for me. I still really enjoyed it.
