I was wondering if anyone might understand this... when i lay down to sleep at night... and close my eyes... i begin to physically sense parts of my body getting larger and smaller... like my feet will feel ten times the size of the rest of my body.. or my head will shrink.... its just weird.. and i didnt know if anyone else has expierenced anything like it. just.. interesting... weird and interesting.
I'd say it's all in your mind, maybe the way your brain senses the change in pressure and blood flow to your body's parts when you lay down and relax for the night's sleep. The brain is a funny place, so don't worry about it.
That used to happen to me all the time. It always freaked me out but I think it has to do with being more aware of your body as your brain begins to slow down for the night. It always happened to me right as I'm about to drift off to sleep, when you're in that weird pre sleep trance.
yeah ever sicne i can remember when i was little i sometimes have episodes where i can close my eyes in the dark like when im trying to fall asleep and spinning sensations begin for a a good 10 or 20 seconds, then stop, you can help it begin by closing eyes and trying to focus, hard to explain always wondered how many other ppl have this happen, im sure some can/do
That happens to me really often, along with the spinning thing. It also happens, or used to happen, to my mom. I'm pretty sure it's normal. I don't really mind it. I think it feels neat. Also, I sometimes see tons of little spirals moving consistently when I close my eyes, but not that much lately. It's pretty crazy.
yeah when i go to sleep at night i sometimes feel a strange sensation of hovering above my body but at a slightly distorted angle... very strange although relaxing too
As a therapist, your experience may be explained thus ~ When the sensory load of day-to-day stimulus is diminished, such as when one turns out the light at night, or when one enters into meditation, prayer, or suchlike, the mind is freed of the necessity attention. If one lives a very active life, the sudden cessation of stimuli creates a 'vacuum' of expereince, and the mind then searches for what is absent ~ input. What the mind seeks, it finds. So it seems that your mind, in search of sensation, is sussing out the bodily parts and examining them in the absence of any other stimuli. As mentioned earlier, this is particularly true if you are very active, anxious, or "hyper" in life. If you use ecstasy or amphetamines, it's time to s - l - o - w down.
