So after a year of letting my hair grow and dread up on it's own - I finally got my first clump! It's on the back of the left of my head

where did your first knots start? I have a feeling that the back of the head ones would start first for most people because of leaning on it during sleep and the backs of chairs

My First Sign Of Dreading Was The Formation Of Loopies On The Tips Right In The

    Middle Of My Back.

Dreads Started Forming Over The Next Month, And According To My Diary I Was At

The Four Week Mark When A Car Load Of Teenagers Called Me A Dreadhead...:2thumbsup:.

Seemed To Take Forever For The Sides At The Front To Get Their Act Together,

I Guess Due To The Oils On My Face At Night.

I Am Now At The 19 Month Mark And Finally The Top Of My Head Is Forming

But They Are Only Small Ones Due To The Fact I Am Thinning On Top.:bigcry:.

It's Been Fun Watching Mother Nature Do Her Thing, And I Am So Pleased I Decided

After 15 Years Of Procrastinating To Finally Grow Dreads...:).

    Cheers Glen.

The first ones where along the taint, but they where rapidly followed by nut-locks, and finially above the shaft.

As for the ones on my head, the left side started locking up at about 3 weeks, by 4 months I had a few on the right, none of the front, and plenty on the upper back and left. by 6 my whole head had them, but lots of loose hair in the front and lower back, and by 8-11 months my whole head was locked. I did, however, start with about a year of growth, maybe closer to two.

This made me laugh. :) So many people think that dreads are from being lazy and not the other way around. lol

My first were also in the back. (i still hate calling this methodneglect-for 4 years I've always called it natural because nature made them, not a person with a tool. Never heard it called "neglect" till started seeing these forums a couple days ago when I was googling dread pictures for an art project...and what, pray tell, is natural about backcombing?)
and here's a follow up question. did your first knots start at the root or tips?mine were about half and half

Mine started with a big fuckin mess in the back.

    Then random pArts all over.

Sometimes they would start at the tips of my hairs, ball up like little testi's and eat it's way up.

I remember specifically around 6 or 7 months, the roots in the back left got chunky. Chunky enough it made my head look super weird. Maybe a week later section right next to it got all chunky. And from then on it just worked it's way around my head until it was supa poofy.

They gotta be somewhere close to a year n a half now and I still got hairs in the front that are still just as normal as can be. Theyre gettin there though.

My first dread was on the lower part of the back of my head. It was like a little nugget of hair. Then the back/sides of my head dreaded up. I have one huge flat congo in the back made up of 4-5 dreads, which is awesome. The hair in front is starting to find it's place now.

At this point my first dread is made up of three dreads that became close friends. It will probably become a thick tail eventually. I can't wait.

nape usually, but my hair forms into loose ringlets and if i don't brush it for a week or so, it starts to section itself into thin little dreads. i've never experienced the clumping
