I've never taken the time to get into Tool, but based on the videos I've seen of their shows, I'd love to see them live. Their music, along with the visual effects they use in their shows, seems like it'd be perfect for 2ce, moreso than other psychs. I'd probably have to be able to sit down during that shit though. lol

It's ok, I dunno I probably have somewhat of a grudge because I'm under the impression he had psy roots and kind of sold out to dubstep.

Edit: searching for it though and possibly I just mistook him for someone else or it was mislabeled.

I've seen Tool in a large venue. I would much rather see them on a smaller stage; I think that would be amazing. I think a venue about the size of House of Blues (the only venue I can think of that most people have probably been to, no matter where you live) is large enough to host bands like tool and rage against the machine but small enough to be intimate

Definitely true! I was meditating during parts of the Tool show on 4-ac0 dmt/MDMA, I bet people around me thought I was on crack or passed out. lol

Definitely a personal preference, but here ya go.

Tool's sound is way too epic for small venues imo and Rage live in an arena was just out of control.

it is personal preference. I just feel like a band, any band, loses its magic in a huge venue. I've had too many bad experiences, i'll probably never see another band in a large venue again, so its a good thing most of my favorite bands are still obscure enough so that they don't play huge venues.

I would be willing to make an exception for rage. I would see rage absolutely anywhere.

yes he had 'psy trance roots' as do many dubstep producers. In your opinion does any producer who evolves into a different genre of music " kind of a sellout'? im not exactly a fan of anything hes done but its pretty obvious the guy genuinely loves dubstep

and yes smaller venues are more intimate than the arenas. But I dont think anyone can top the downtown manhattan venue 'the stone' 60 person capacity and no bar haha

Tool tries to connect through the music, it's more of an experience rather than going to see a concert for the individuals. I know what you are saying but with a band like Tool where really if you listen to the music not a single member really stands out (eventhough Maynard has huge notoriety) there is really no point for them to play on a smaller stage, They are not trying to connect with their faces and personas if that makes sense.

Maybe a band like AFI I'd prefer on a smaller stage because Davey Havok takes on this kind of larger than life persona.

Not at all but working with Nelly Furtado is enough for me to consider him a sellout. Doesn't even necessarily make the music bad either, it's just how I feel about it.

I understand what you mean about Tool, but to me smaller venues aren't better because you can get a better sense of the persona of the musician, although that is great. I just think the crowd is always better in a small venue. When I saw Tool in a large venue I was too distracted by all the people. Of course, that was in my shitty hometown venue, which doesn't have the greatest acoustics or atmosphere anyway.

I just feel like whenever I see music I want it to be an intimate affair. I want to be surrounded by people that are absolutely in love with the music, and you don't always get this feeling in a huge arena with 30,000 other people.

I don't always get that feeling at a club either. There has been plenty of times i've gone to a club where people go just because it's the club they go to to hang out, people have gone just to get shitfaced, and nights in club where the energy is just not there as well.

The sound is terrible but this is a vid from the Deftones show in Nola I was at.

And this is where I got my short ass kicked and he apparently had mic issues.

You can see just the top of my head in there amongst the madness at times.

They seem like a band that plays better on a smaller stage, that seems a lot better than when I saw them.

Some bands I'm sure have off nights too, due to sickness or just not playing well, but Deftones had way more energy in those videos then when I saw them, they got sandwiched in between Papa Roach when they were Huge and System of a Down at the event I saw as well so that kind of was tough to follow and preceed.

*Deftones are much better than Papa Roach but you know what I'm saying.

thats true, local shows can especially be like this which has always bugged me because some of my best friends make up a large part of my local music scene...I want people to show them some respect, damnit!

except for local shows, all the shows I go to are held in one particular venue in Atlanta. All my favorite musicians book shows there so I haven't found a reason to see them anywhere else. The venue is in an old converted church, the acoustics are amazing, and I've never really experienced a bad crowd there.
