When my credit was so bad that I couldn't rent an apartment, I rented a room in a house instead. It wasn't great, but it was better than nothing.

That situation sucks and I hope everything works out for you.

at least you're not a felon (right?) they can't do shit. i feel bad for the felons.

defaulting on loans is nothing new for humanity. It doesn't necessarily mean you suck at life. It's just another bridge to cross.

it's amazing the information you get from people wanting to rent. I rely more on references than anything else. I just don't want the responsibility of having all the information about someones life.

It is unpleasant how our society sets us up for credit problems and then makes sure our life is extremely difficult for years to come because of it.

I sometimes feel like I will never be able to pay off my loans

go to a credit councelling agency, you can make a deal with them and they talk on your behalf to your debtors... they stop calling and it's just a relief all around. They may charge a fee on a sliding scale, or they may be a community agency ...

anyways we did it when we were young we used an agency ... paid them,,, and they paid off our debt for us, we bought houses cars etc. later on. so it was all good

Im broke now mind you, but debt free!

I've seen a FICO score of 180 before.

I used to do credit report checks - maybe 150 a day sometimes and looked at people's credit bureaus for a bank.

570 is totally credible to get a mortage, dear. You need roughly 365 to get a credit card. I rarely saw people with a FICO over 750. Those are people who are angels and have never defaulted in the past 7 years. I maybe saw like, 1 person every 2-3 days who had a FICO above 750.

Maybe I saw someone over 700 ohhh, 6 times a day. But those people have like, 10 years of established credit.

Don't worry. You're good. Plus they always run two credit reports when they are checking seriously. So they either do an Equifax check or a TransUnion check - and typically when they run a TransUnion, the information is further-reaching in the past, so it boosts your score up than an Equifax sheet.

    Don't worry dude.

Oh, and FYI. I just went to a student debt conference this week. When you are going to be late, call them. They will always do something to help you before you default. It looks really bad when you default on a student loan, so it's important to make arrangements before you do.
