Hello I wanted to say I think cows are indeed sacred. India realizes this. Too bad America treats cows as food and nothing more. See what this article has to say: http://hinduism.about.com/b/2009/04/27/why-is-the-cow-sacred-to-hindus-2.htm And what do you think? I'm really curious to see if I could be just one of the few people living in US who think Cows should be treated with respect and loved. Cheers
I don't have any very strong thoughts on the topic, but cows are my cousin's favorite animal, and she has tons of cow decorations and figurines.
I quit eating cow this year. Out of nowhere beef just starting tasting really gross to me. To counteract this I've started wearing all leather. I don't think any one thing or species or animal could be any more sacred than the rest. It's all one.
Cows and bulls are just males and females of the same species of cattle. The females are called cows and the males are called bulls. Are bulls sacred too?
Cows are nasty smelling, often foul tempered ("cow" referring to a species, rather than a female.... and males and females can still be nasty/mean animals for no reason) often pretty dumb, and just.... not sacred. Chipmunks are just as sacred. i don't think cows should be treated with cruelty or anything, but if food's not sacred, I don't know what is. I mean, if you gave me a nice cow, I wouldn't hurt it... But if you gave me a mean one, steak time! Bottom line is they're fucking delicious and have useful skin.
I wouldn't say we treat them like walking hamburgers...I know of plenty of farms that treat their cows better than humans!
To me eating meat is a sacred act. To eat the flesh of a fellow creature another cognitive being sharing such close homage to my reality is something that should not be abused. Now i do love my steak once in a while but animles should not be commercialy abused for food when it's not only moraly and ecanomicaly ignorent but for the fact that the grain and plants they consume while being raised could feed all 3rd world countries..
Dude, there's money to make and pounds to gain, and you're spouting this common sense bullshit about feeding people. Send a big-mac to darfur, if you really care
Foul tempered? I don't think I've ever even seen a cow blink let alone be foul. I've been charged by groups of them, but they only do that if you try tipping them.
I've been menaced by more than one bull. Same species, different gender... Sounds like you take these walking steaks to be pretty sacred too, though, what with tipping em' and all
I once witnessed a bizarre display of bovine 'sentience'.... I was on one of my marathon unicycle rides when I found myself on this road that paralleled a long, narrow pasture with about 15 head of grazing dairy cows. When I got close, the cows all abruptly ran to the fence and stared at me as I rode by.. just stood there staring, all wide eyed and creepy, until I got 50 yds or so past, then they would suddenly run up to where I was, stop, and continue with the staring. This repeated several times until the fence at the end of the pasture stopped them. very fuckin' weird
Ah yes, I forgot about the bulls. One in particular comes to mind from my uncles farm. It definitely had my destruction in it's shiney black eye the first time I was assigned the task of feeding the brute. As for tipping, I was kidding. Though I enjoy bbqing the flesh of certain animals, I certainly don't wish the living ones any harm. When I was young however I grew up in the country and pissed off many cows by rambling amongst them in the fields. Turns out they don't take kindly to 12 year-olds with sticks. I was telling the truth though. Out of nowhere beef just tasted really gross one day so I stopped eating it.
it's not eating meat that's wrong or even eating cows, or any other animal if anything is wrong and fucked up, it's breeding animals specifically for the purpose of killing them
I love it I think its something new for me to think about. I feel as though animals have alot to teach us. Even cows, bless them. Cute little guys too.
