I'm thinking about how our food preferences change over time.... Remember how tomatoes may have turned you off at one time then later they became enjoyable?...or the crappy mac and (fake powder) cheesy stuff in the box was appealing?...or maybe some of the oldies have remained goodies to you. What has changed in your food preferences and what has continued to remain the same? Pretty much all processed foods seem disgusting to me now. I used to have some pretty bad eating habits. I loved Chef Boyardee Spaghetti in a can all throughout my childhood but one day when I was 17 or 18 I was eating it and almost started puking, it all of a sudden seemed so gross. I used to hate a lot of foods that I now love. Yogurt, for one.
Hi Meliai...Yeah , Interesting isn't it; how over time our taste buds do comparisons we're unaware of until..lol one day we discover we don't care for something we once did quite a bit! And yogurt great example of taste changing over time!
lucky charms are still magically delicious.... mushrooms have always and will always make me nauseous....i can no longer enjoy a mcdonalds 'anything'...actually most fast food has lost its appeal to me....but i still love a bowl of lucky charms...this month you can catch lucky's new webisodes online
Anything that is produced to survive on the shelf for a month, or in the freezer.. Its all filled with too many preservatives that are horrible for you. Even the fish and meat in major stores comes frozen. Yuck, no thanks. Everything now days is produced on too large of a scale, which I believe is one of the reasons everything has become terrible for us. It's everywhere. Im lucky that I can buy local and know the exact spot where my lettuce came from. Now it just learning to cook, which can be very hard.
learning to cook?...dude...i feel i should tell you that no one cooks lettuce...you supposed to rip it up and put it in a salad...i just saved you some major embarrassment my friend...no wonder you dont have a girlfriend lol
At one time me and my buddy used to go to Wendy's stoned every night. Now, all I can taste is grease if I have one of their burgers. Chef Boyardee is another one that got gross, but that one's still edible. Cranberry sauce was once my favorite Thanksgiving food, and stuffing my least; now that is switched. Carrots and bananas are weird ones for me, in that I seem to fluctuate between loving and hating them. I've learned to love many foods though: spinach (especially uncooked), broccoli, kiwi, mango, cole slaw, green/red pepper And there's a couple things that were a bit of acquired tastes that aren't food items
I couldn't stand the thought of tasting cottage cheese, but now I throw some pineapple or mandarin oranges in there and I like it . Believe it or not, eggs are good with cottage cheese.
i used to hate yogurt and jellow. i still do. does that count...?... also, mushrooms make my mouth sting and itch like crazy so i cannot and will not eat them.
I've always hated Lima beans. I still do. What's changed is that my parents no longer pay me a penny each to eat them. Last time they did that I gagged, and acted like I was dying.
Magically delicious!, although the digestion of the grains in LC gives me the major nasty burps!,so of course I stay away. …..BTW mushrooms seem to be one of the foods people seem to either love or love to hate. Wonder if it has to do the texture of them?
I used to eat fast food all time when I was in school. Now I stick with fruit & veggies. Also lean meats like salmon & turkey
As a kid I hated bananas, my parent's said it was because one of my best friends didn't like them haha. Now I love them. I still am not a raisin fan, and avoid them as much as I can! I don't eat raw celery, never have, BUT i will cook with it in soups and main dishes In regards to desires for food: I no longer crave meat (except on rare occasions, but even then I don't touch it)...I still eat eggs before a long shift at work (because doing so helps prevent me from getting low blood sugar half way through), but the idea kinda creeps me out now days, and I don't really even understand why (i'm not asking because I really don't want to think about it until I am at a point where I can stop). Packaged and processed foods, while sometimes tempt me when I'm starving, are things that make me cringe when i read the ingredients label. This is a FAIRLY new thing, and the cause for this transition is KNOWLEDGE. High Fructose Corn Syrup is OUT of my diet completely, well 99.9% of thetime. I can't tell you when I last had a Coke or soft drink- it's been months! Soy is something I am trying to cut out completely, but that isn't as easy as I'd like it to be. I used to LOVE LOVE olives, now maybe, MAYBE on a veggie pizza, but even then sometimes they're too much for me. I used to hate mushrooms, but once i tried psychedelic mushrooms I figured I could respect it's relatives enough to enjoy them in good cuisine I don't enjoy them raw though. i used to refuse crunchy peanut butter, but now that's the best kind did i ramble long enough? i'm sure things will keep coming to me
Hey, Good for you. Buying local and cooking fresh will keep you up and runnin' for awhile to come!:sunny: - I have and will remain a huge fan of all fresh fruits and vegies! - Eggs and cottage cheese, who'd a thunk it?? uh oh food allergy too cute of a story.. they'd pay ya penny to eat um'.
cottage cheese frightens me and buttermilk should be illegal. As a kid we had our own cows and always had a quart jar of milk in the icebox. One day grandpa made butter milk, put in in the icebox where the milk should have been. I drank it without knowing...oh my god...lumps in dairy products are quite disgusting!
:2thumbsup: Smart thinking, I say! -Great recall on all these changes! ..LOL Eww...hey then again we've learned within this post about eggs and cottage cheese going together, guess anythings possible!
