Is anyone else really into this band?

They're a little obscure I guess, and most of the recordings arn't that amazing, but I think some of their songs have a really great sound.

Yep, I'm a fan. The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators and Easter Everywhere are true classics. Unlike a lot of psychedelic bands, the Elevators play psychedelic ROCK. [IMG] I think they're great.

I love the 13th Floor Elevators. They're one of my favourite bands of the sixties. The Psychedelic Sounds Of is one of my favourite albums of all time.

What are your favourite Elevators songs?
Mine are Roller Coaster, Street Song, Dust, You Don't Know.

Roller Coaster was apparently Syd's inspiration for Lucifer Sam.

You're Gonna Miss Me, Splash I & Till Then are a couple of my favourites.

I like "Roller Coaster," "Reverberation," "Fire Engine," "You Don't Know (How Young You Are)," "Slip Inside This House," "She Lives (In a Time Of Her Own)," and "I've Got Levitation." Heh, every Elevators song is good. :p

    Heh, I didn't know that.

Great band. Easter Everywhere is their best, IMO.

Yup; if you listen to the basic riff, it's pretty similar.

I love the Elevators, Bull Of The Woods my fave actually. These guys were part of the texas punk movement in the late 60s that encompassed a wide range of what is now considered more of a psych sound. However they helped create a scene in the area, and managed to make some great music while doing so.

They also influenced many musicans of the area, and have had a wide reaching effect on music without getting much attention for it. Ive had the priveledge of meeting several performers who played with or around them and all have very high praise for these guys.

One way to find out how old a texas musician really is: ask them when they first saw 13th floor elevators!

Syd Barrett also got the main riff to 'Interstellar Overdrive' from Love's 'My Little Red Book.'

haha that was weird...... I was listening to "relics" today for the first time in quite a many months... and once I heard the main riff to interstellar overdrive, that little trivia tidbit popped up in my head, but I couldnt think of the love song.

hmm Im not sure about that.......

my reference book here says that the music was based around the riff to bo diddley's "I aint got you".......unless roller coaster was based off the same riff.

the elevators song "tried to hide" is based on the kinks song "come on now" and jounrey to tyme by kenny and the kasuals has the same riff too.

anyone here a fan of the moving sidewalks?

yeah the moving sidewalks are cool, I have their album. Although the stuff on the album is pretty good heavy psych I prefer their earlier garage punk stuff more. The CD I have is an Akarma reissue of the album but includes alot of their early more garagier stuff as bonus tracks.
Love the sleeve of this album
