I remember way back as a kid when Sundays meant everything in the little town near where we lived was closed. Gas Stations and all. You either got what you needed on Saturday or did without. I liked the feel of Sunday then...it was set aside, special, no pressure. It was a religious thing but the overall effect was quite nice.
Oh that was the same here where i live too. there would be nothing open at all, But now, you could go into town and its like its a normal weekday, near on all shops are open till around 4-5pm. sundays used to be a religious day to us too, the only time we would go out was to go to church.
same thing i do any workday. go to work, come home and do some homework if i have it, and then fuck around for a few hours before bed.
I hate Sundays. I know it's weird. I just hate them. Saturday >>>>>> Sunday. Because I often have things to do for the upcoming week on Sunday, and it feels like Monday is upon us.
I took part the practical part of my restricted firearms test, took the dog out for an hour-long walk at a park, went to the dump, gassed up my truck, bbqed a steak, and now I am watching an afternoon hockey game. I'll probably spend tonight writing lesson plans for the upcoming week. Pretty nice mellow day.
I worked much of life in my own small retail business and along about the 80s sometime, Sunday became just another work day. Now, I'm retired and Sunday is just like Friday which was just like Tuesday. Which is just fine by me.
Reading this stuff reminds me of some other kid era Sunday stuff. Sunday usually meant a really good Sunday dinner. I often helped in the kitchen, Dad too at times. Those were good meals at all levels. Often Sundays meant going to someone else's farm...other kids to play with, other woods and barns to explore. Sunday mornings were often hunting Mushrooms in Spring, gathering Hickory and Walnuts in fall, Fishing in Summer. Good Sunday memories.
usually its just a lazy day, go out around town for a walk with Merlin (my dog), watch whatever sports is on tv, sometimes gym it up today, well, i've been trying to stay awake. didn't sleep at all last night and now i'm attempting to stay awake till bed so I can have a semi-decent sleep schedule again
Lately I only get one day off, so...Sundays don't mean squat to me. I'm lucky to get the things I need to do done at all.
My work week begins on Sunday, however it's usually a lot calmer than the rest of the work week, so I enjoy it immensely.
