Hey there, I'm 19, and I live in Maryland. Tomorrow morning, I have a doctor appoinment with a brand new doctor. I'm going to go ahead and tell my doctor that I use cannabis as a treatment for my insomnia, depression, and to calm my nerves. I'm just a bit weary with the outcome. Ultimately, I'd like to get a doctor's recommendation to continue using cannabis as medicine. I don't like knowing that I can be arrested for trying to ease my mind. I'm just wondering, how should I go about doing this? How should I bring it up? What kind of recommendation proof is there?
Currently, MD is working on medical laws, if that helps. We're just waiting for it to pass the House.
when they ask ''what medications are you currently taking?''..put cannabis...or say cannabis...thats how you bring it up...the doctors response will tell you if its gonna happen...most will say no right away if they are against it......be polite....good luck
Thanks for the response. I guess that would be the best time to say it. Do you think most doctors are open to the idea? I mean, I definitely have seen positive results in my use, and no negative as of now.
I would never tell them anything like that ! You don't want it on record with ANY doctor that your a drug abuser , and that's exactly what will be noted . So that at 19 and for the rest of your life you will have a tough time getting legal pain medicine , or any mental health medicines .and be treated and looked at differently as a "drug abuser " It's not worth it I.m.o. . Maryland isn't even a medicinal marijuana state , as you well know and stated . However correct me if I'm wrong that bill is just for people not to be arrested in possession of marijuana , not real legalization of medicinal marijuana , correct ? So your doctors approval or disapproval will mean nothing anyway really .He or she may not approve of medical marajuana anyway . Besides it hasn't even passed , nor will it in my opinion . I would NOT do this . Even if arrested it's a misdemeanor as long as your not dealing or with a lot of weight . No big deal . Good luck though in what ever you decide .
Actually, the bill states, that if passed, those with a valid doctor's recommendation are not subject to any penalties, fines, or record. Also, 2 of the 3 members in the house have already directly stated to me that they support this bill. No, it is not a misdemeanor if you're under a doctor's recommendation.
And as of 2003, the maximum penalty for a medical marijuana user is a civil infraction and a fine of $100. This removes those penalties. Senate passed it last week on a landslide vote of 41-6. Seems like it'll pass to me...
Then I would let it pass first before volunteering any information to what may well be an unsympathetic doctor . When and if it becomes law then okay maybe . And will " insomnia " and "depression " be acceptable conditions to meet the laws medicinal marijuana criteria and requirement ? Or will it be up to the doctors discretion in giving you their approval in which case you may have to seek out additional doctors who will be more understanding of your cause , to get said recommendation ? Creating more paper trails and information you are willingly volunteering . I just have to wonder if the benefits outweigh the costs ? I mean unless your smoking a hell of a lot in public , you will probably never be hassled or arrested over it .
I'd rather not be arrested getting my medicine. I suffer from insomnia, that will keep me awake for days on end. Any relief is worth it, in my book. The pros vastly outweigh the cons, I just figured I'd might as well take the chance. I've compiled a list of reasons why I prefer cannabis over all other pharms. I've used for relief. The same is for my kidney stone pain, where I've noted that Opiates do seem to work, but I worry about the addiction potential. I can live without abusing other drugs. Cannabis is just perfect for my conditions.
