Descartes' Meditations were some of the first philosophy I ever read. They were a great place to start, starting out with the deconstruction of self realization. That blew my mind somewhat.
I liked Descartes, until I read a bit of Locke. Currently reading some Locke as well as Heidegger, both of which I recommend.
i am beginning to be interested in reading wittgenstein at the same time continually finding myself in the head of karl popper ?
I can't seem to edit my first post again But i just wanted to say that i like the on-going discussions of philosophers and hope that it continues! Philosophy has become a great interest to me and you guys keep giving me more philosophers to read about!
That was my first book for him as well. It's definitely an interesting scholarly read but as come to learn more of zen I understand why many in zen call the Watts book 'dead words'. My two cent suggestion: Robert Anton Wilson
Try some Albert Camus: The Myth of Sisyphus and The Rebel are both great. His novels are also very philosophical and damn good: try The Stranger and The Plague.
no person, living or dead, is as interesting as the process of thought itself. no one is without the capacity for weighing the same considerations as every one of them has had to confront.
Paul Bruntons writings in my opinion are really good. From his earlier works all the way thru his collections of notebooks published after his death are filled with tons of information and interesting observations.
Read all of these or none of these. The goal is to create your own philosophy, isn't it? That said, I am currently into Alan Watts.
philosophers and their books I enjoyed reading Wittgenstein - Tractatus Logico Philosophicus Hume - A Treatise of Human Nature - also Dialogues concerning a natural religion A.J. Ayer - Language Truth and Logic
I'm currently looking into works by Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov..pretty interesting stuff.. especially "A Philosophy of Universality".
