Anyone ever managed to notch up a decent enough one worthy of living in? Always seemed like a very cool way to live, like the girls off 'Without a Paddle' :p

No, all the trees are sickly and dying around here. Kinda a combination of diesese, a mite, and more intense use of ag chemicals..

We built a pretty nice one back in the mid 60's just to camp and hang out in. As I got older and moved on, someone came along and cut the tree down....I wish I had some pics of it though....;-)

Nice one farmout, bet that was awesome to chill out in :) Yeah I think that would probably be the problem. Either people cutting the trees down, or idiots destroying them for kicks or something. That seems to be the case around here anyway =/

This is one of two treehouses at a camp I worked at. They are engineered to allow the tree to grow, and the treehouses to move with the growth. The treehomes overlook the lake, and are powered with a solar panel with a marine battery, which is enough power to run the lighting.

Wow that's great! Good that it is solar powered too and built with the trees growth in mind :)

Not actually a tree house, but this thread reminded me of this. One of the cooler decks I've seen is built around the southern side of a cottage and it has multiple trees growing through it.

Its between 10 and 20 feet off the ground, and where the trees were, when the deck was built, they left spaces for the trees to grow through the frame, with the boards sticking out almost a foot all the way around so they can be trimmed back each year as the trees grow.

i've seen a number of treehouses in some other hip websites.they were actual real-life, move-in, liveable houses, not toys. i suppose, as is usual, the main set-back is the prohibitive cost. paisley skye.
