My name is Amanda and I live in NY. I came into the "hippie" lifestyle when I recovered from a horrible, years-long drug addiction (opiates) and realized that the way I had lived my life had a lot to do with the anger and depression and the need to bury my emotions in drugs. I searched for a new outlet and found gardening, hiking, camping, painting and books. Today is my daughter's third birthday and I vowed when she was born that I would raise her to love, appreciate and protect the beautiful things in life. She's learned a lot so far I'm here looking for like-minded people. Not many of us where I live
Hello to you Amanda! It's so awesome that you've turned your life around like that! Best wishes for your daughter as well! I'm in Connecticut, already worried about tomorrow's season opener for the Yankees possibly not happening (Nor'Easter?). Anyways, welcome to HIP!
Hello & Welcome to the forums. Glad you found us. Come down to the games forum and crack some jokes with us. You will find like minded folks here, I assure you of that. Peaceful thoughts your way... Farmout
Hi Amanda, that's a great success story...I wish you and your daughter well. I'm here just short time myself, but have been welcomed by many fine folks here. Where in NY are you? ( upstate/west.etc?). I'm in NJ on the NJ/NY border. Feel free to email or PM me anytime. Dave
Dave, I live in Southwestern NY. Tiny little town in Allegany County (the poorest county in NY, actually!). And farmout, I'll see you around the Games forum
oh..ok..I have a buddy in Jamestwon...last time I came back from there, I ended up with a flat tire at 3 am in Wellsville...lol please keep in touch.
Do you get hit with all that nasty lake effect snow in your part of NY state? I always hear of the horror stories of the Tug Hill Plateau in the Watertown area. At least the rain has held off in the Bronx! Go Yankees! P.S. How was your daughter's birthday?
Congratulations on your recovery. I have several friends suffering from the same thing and I know they are having a very hard time getting out of it. I wish you the best and hope to get to know you better while you're on here!!
It was wonderful I got her her very first guitar (purple and white lol) and she sat and strummed it and sang the words "a bayou" over and over (she loves the song "Born on a Bayou" by CCR lol).
Thank you for the update! Nice to hear that she had a good time! Meanwhile, the U-Conn basketball craze is in full effect here. Living just southwest of Hartford will give you a big does of it, despite the campus itself being a good distance to my east in the Storrs section of Mansfield, CT. As for your part of NY state, the closest I've been to it would be Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall Of Fame (1995 and 1996). I was last in Albany in 2004. My twin brother has been to Buffalo before and separate visits to Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton.
