Hey fellow backpackers and wanderers. I am currently travelling southern ontario drifting around waiting for my passport. But im kind of in a predicament, my travel partner started tweaking in woodstock with this friend we went to visit. i was the only one there not high. it was pretty selfish of him he knows how much i hate that shit. were pretty much brothers but i just dont know what to do. hes smart and open minded but chooses not to use it some days.
So i guess this thread turned into two things. one is advice on this. but the main point i was getting to is im thinking of getting him to go travel with my cousin so i can go my own way. so is there anyone drifting through eastern north america right now looking for a travel partner? let me know and ill come meet you somewhere.

sorry it turned out to be so long but needed to talk about it i fucking hate shit like this. thanks guys!!

Well. I have a similar story- Im in Southern Ontario aswell, visiting some friends & applying for my passport. My buddy who was traveling to the tropics with me had some busness to take care of back home & will no longer be coming with me.

I'll be heading down to Central America in a few months to live & travel. I know of some beaches etc in which your able to set up a hammok or tent, but I will also be staying in hostels. Seeing the towns aswell as exploring the ancient ruins & expecially the cenotes.. I find it so interesting. Im not doing the whole tourist guided thing. & I've been interested in doing some WWOOFing in certain areas either along the way or afterwards.
This is more of a long-term thing for me. Not just a vacation, as I'll be attending the gathering in mexico in the winter of 2012.

Let me know what you think & what your plans are, =]
    Peace,
    -Kay.

Sounds like a great plan! I would love to join you on that journey. If I go that far I would want to keep going and drift south America. And WWOOFing sounds great, I've always thought of doing it.
When are you planning on leaving? Have you sent in your passport application? Right now I'm backpacking eastern Canada for a while and then will head south. How much money will you be starting out with?
Your plan sounds great I've always wanted to see that part of central america. If you have a cell or something maybe we can text while we make plans instead of on here. Doesnt really matter just I'm not around wifi that much.
Thanks for the reply and look forward to heading south!

    Hey Jaren,
Sorry man, I dont have a cell anymore. I'm not around wifi too often either, but Im sure we'll make it work . =]
Good for you for backpackin in the East during winter! Hahha, I was doing that out West & ended up on as far West as physically possible because it was just too damn cold inland.

Well I'm planning to head on down there as soon as possible. I havent yet sent my passport application but that will be done soon, as Im starting to save up some money.. Ill be starting out with a fair amount, enough for food, transportation[if need be], rum, supplies/equipment & hostels if nessisary. But Ive lived off the land before here in Canada [you cannot eat money you know [IMG]] So I'm doing some research into the plant/animal life in Central & South America. Whats edible & how to prepare it etc. I like to camp out aswell, quite obviously, so money is not an issue to me. Expecially if Ill be doing some WWOOFing here & there. .

When are you thinking of heading on down there? =]
Drifting on through South America sounds great aswell, Im told that most of the areas in South America speak Spanish so I've been learning some basic Spanish that might be useful.

    Take care man,

    Peace

Well I'm coming back from Newfoundland. Made it to the most eastern point in north America! Im used to the cold but looking forward to the southern sun.

I'm hoping to head down as soon as possible aswell. From here I'm probably heading to DC for some protests, and then back up to Barrie to exchange some winter gear for summer. And I just mentioned money because it's handy to have for emergencies and makes crossing the border easier. Im used to living without money.
It took almost a month to get my passport. I would like to learn as much Spanish as I can, but pretty hard while traveling. But the more knowledge the better. So I'm ready when you are. If it's too long though then maybe we can meet somewhere.

I've thought about this myself. Have you looked into the visa requirements for down there? What about inoculations?

Hey Jaren, I appologize for not getting back to you sooner, ! Ive been working alot, makin a little cash.

Newfoundland eh, right on I hear its beautiful. The only place in Canada I havent been yet .
& Spanish is not very hard to learn believe it or not, so even knowing a few phrases, questions & answers would come in handy & its easy to aquire while your traveling, =]
If you would like to meet up I can definitly teach you some spanish that may be of help. .. Ive been learning from some of the mexicans at work, aswell as learning the basic grammer & construction, so Ill be pro spanish within a year or so ;)

That sounds great though, when do you think you'll be heading back up to Canada to exchange your clothing?
I finnish working at the greenhouse the first week of May & that should be enough cash for emergency situations, money's not of great importance of course but like you said its good to have for certain situations.

So take care man, hope to talk to you soon. Ill try to get to the internet more often lol.

    Peace!
    -Kay.

Hello, sorry about this. I should have gotten back to you much sooner. But I travelled to the west coast to help out my cousin. And will the go into BC. And I figured since im there i wanted to then to do the west coast trail and see the Haidi Gwaa and then go see Alaska.
But i guess we'll see. This did all sound great and i dont want to jam out. But to post pone it would be great. Because i want to learn more Spanish and skills about living off the land. I dont want to be too far behind you on that scale. But if you want to head over to BC and travel for a bit before hand that could work out good. Let me know what you think and sorry about this. Im a little too spontanious for my own good.

    - Jaren
