alright, for my term paper i have to read a novel by and American author. and it has to be about a "researchable topic". and i was just wondering if anybody had any good ideas. once again, requirements are: 1) has to be by an American author 2) must have "researchable topic" 3) has to be junior honors level, but yeah i'm sure none of you would suggest any less. anyways, help is appreciated!
oh, and it has to be fiction... but i'm assuming you figured that out by the location of where i posted the thread.
By researchable topic, do you mean that the story's main topic must be researchable, or that there must be a researchable topic within the story? I really would suggest picking a story you're already at least a little familiar with. Whether it be something you've read or seen an adaptation of or saw on Wishbone =P
To kill a mocking bird? Surely the quality of the written piece has to be at junior honors level so the choice of novel is fairly open, it's what you make of it. Good luck!
it just has to have a researchable topic within it, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the main focus of the story.
"Mother Night" by Kurt Vonnegut is a really good book. It's about an American playwright living in Germany prior to and during World War 2 who is asked by the Us Government to Join the National Socialist Party in order to spy and bring insider information to the US through encoded radio transmissions. He is later tried as a Nazi War Criminal, and it is written from the Point of view of him in Jail in Israel after the war awaiting execution. It deals with the war, race relations, Philosophy, the desensitization the main character undergoes as a spy/Propogandist in the internmet camps, fascism and how it exist in many facets of society and many societies.. It is Fiction, but is based on life.. "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be."
Altered States is the ultimate horror story-the story of one young scientist's terrifying experiment to find the origins of consciousness. Entombed in an isolation tank, fed with a powerful hallucinogenic drug, he experiences finally the supreme moment of terror that is the beginning of life. Altered States is a love story-the story of a man who learns that love is the greatest of all acts of faith. Altered States is a novel of exploration-of other states of consciousness, the unimaginable kingdoms of the mind. For the scientist, like the novelist, there are the new frontiers of truth beyond which anything can happen... *theres also a movie about it, which makes writing the paper easyer when u can watch the movie and say u read the book * Its really a very amazing concept. pretty much this dude goes down to mexico does some mushrooms and trips and has some intense things. and uses a isolation tank (sensory deprivation)) and some how travels backwords into his dna learning some crazy things about some crazy stuff. iunno, its pretty cool hahah.
ahhhh, freaking awesome, thank you! thank you, haha except it's too late to choose a book, i ended up just having my english teacher choose one. but i'm reading this anyways.
at first, i really thought i could just see u writing an entire paper about all the red fish and all the blue fish and the first fish and the second fish
