Screw the studio albulms (some of them are ok, but...) if you want to hear what phish is really about, go buy any of their 'Live Phish' releases. Might I suggest the bomb factory show in dallas, TX from somewhere in the middle 90's. That's a good start.

Yea, I probably would have really regreted it if I hadn't gone. But having been there, I can say that they were the worst Phish shows I'd ever seen. You should remember the good shows you did see and don't have any regrets.

I dont regret not going to coventry at all. I would have spent sooo much money on tickets, travel, food, drugs and such that it would have been a waste. I had a good enough time at all the other summer shows to not really care about heading up to coventry.

Yea, I wish I had gone to some other shows last summer. Instead I put all my eggs in the coventry basket. What an idiot I am!

coventry was total hell. all that walking and standing, eating bogus shrooms and spending money, wading through MUD which seemed to permeate everything, waiting on long lines for the shitter, which when i got there, refused to go into
then having to sleep on the pavement with no blanket, sleeping bag or tent, freezing, covered in mud, knowing i have a 14 mile walk ahead of me

but, somehow, my memories of it were great and im very glad i went

Hahaha those shitters were the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life. I looked in about 3 of them, but couldn't bring myself to use 1. There was literally shit piled up higher than the seat! I'm glad I went, but my memories are mixed. There was all the mud, walking, and shitters, but mostly I was disappointed with the volume. I could barely hear the band.

All very true statements. Honestly, the beginning of the end was really around the new years run of 94'. Their popularity exploded in 93 and 94 and all of that 'fame' went to Trey's head big time - continuing to get worse as time marched on. I saw them a good 70 times between 93 and 97, but the shows following 94 really just started to go downhill. After 97 I saw them maybe 5 times and really wasn't that dissappointed with their break up at all as the real magic had gone away long ago.

I'm not saying their shows weren't good the last few years, but they don't even compare to the way they played together up until 95'. I agree with what someone else said. I'd love to see mike, page and john continue playing without Trey. Trey is the Sting or Billy Corgan of the jam band scene - a complete ego maniac who has no concept of band.

Oh and as for the Dave Matthews Band comments. Trey is about to sign DMB's manager. Apparently he drank the water

i dont get it! iv asked this question before and never gotten any real answers. what is so egotistical about trey! his guitar is louder than the other instruments in the shows, but it should be, cus its a guitar, it should be real fucking loud

ever watch the movie Bittersweet Motel? if you're looking for an obvious example just watch the movie - many parts of the movie show trey's ego on full display and it's not too hard to see how it was and would continue to become more and more detrimental to the band.

Phish's music used to involve more of a group approach, but during the later years it was trey dictating how HE wanted the songs to go. I can remember being at the 12-29-94 Providence show. I was 10 rows back during the 30 minute David Bowie which was completely forced and unnatural. The rest of the band were just looking at Trey like wtf are you doing - hello, their are four of us on stage lets play TOGETHER. Things like this started becoming more and more frequent. You ask any of those close to the band around these parts (burlington) and they will all tell you the same thing and have been saying it for years. As soon as they got big - Trey's ego completely took over the flow of the music and the magic that once was began to fade away.

Like I said the shows were still good until the end, but Phish had become Trey and Phish long before they hung it up.

i own bittersweet motel. it concentrates mostly on trey's solos, and mostly has his input in the interviews. i did notice that. but i didnt see any evidence that it was his fault what some independent film makers chose to film

and its sort of ironic and hypocritical of trey if he really is that egotistical. cus i have seen intreviews with him and read transcripts from interviews where he gets all mystical and talks about lack of ego and how its so essential to jamming with others and all that.

but as iv said, i wasnt into them pre-hiatus, so i wouldnt know

I miss them a lot. The first show I went to was the afore mentioned 2-28-2003 Nassau show. This summer I saw the Mansfield show and then headed up to Coverntry. I wish I had seen more of them. I can't fuckin wait to see a Vida Blue show though!

Not that I was much a part of it, but the Phish community is partly what made the whole experiance so special, I hope to see all ya'll at the boy's shows!

which night mansfield did you go to?

8/10 was my first and last phish show unfortunately, i love the music, with a strong passion, i believe that as a band they were awesome and truly musically talented, i do wish trey would realize dave is no where as good as what phish was and in some opinions is still or was still close to the end, and will have an epiphany that its all about the music, not the ego
as a local musician from around here says thru a sticker on his guitar,,,people before profit......(Chad from dispatch/state radio)
    thats my 7 1/2 cents
