As of Tuesday evening (March 29) every member of Seattle legislative delegation to Olympia—all ten representatives and all five senators from the 34th, 36th, 37th, 43rd, and 46th Districts—had gone on the record to say that they support taxing, regulating, and legalizing cannabis. Along with them, every elected official at City Hall (the mayor, the city attorney, and all nine members of the city council) and King County Executive Dow Constantine also went on record to support cannabis legalization.
after reading this article, i really do hope that the people of Washington State will stand up and make history here. It only makes logical sense. Even if the rules are relatively stringent, it is a start. :sifone:
I bet it will be the shitty legalization where 21 year olds go to jail for 6 months for smoking up with 18 year olds. Get real people, the only acceptable "legalization" is planting it everywhere so they can't take it from us. This isn't "a step in the right direction" they want to put MORE reguations and penalties on weed. Read the fine print before you run out and vote for something that fucks a lot of people over
Expect some heavy handed threats from the criminals in congress and the question of states rights to supplant the issue of legalization.
Whats going to happen to all the people that have recently been fined or jailed if it becomes legal? That is a big question, because you know people are going to come forward. We want out money back, our history cleared ect. A lot will arise if it happens. It should already be legal, I smoked countless times going to college in seattle. Cops are far to busy 99% of the time. Mature smokers get by without problems.
It is stated policy of the dept. that marijuana receive the lowest level of attention. At any rate, consider that those legislators are not criminals and they represent the will of their constituents. People who are known and trusted with our decision making power.
What happened to all of the convictions handed down during prohibition, I don't know, but perhaps there, is an example.
Giving alcohol and cigarettes to minors is illegal, with pretty hefty consequences. At least in Canada. I see no problem at all with applying the same thing to cannabis. In fact, I would support it, kids are going to find ways to get it, but just like cigarettes and alcohol, the government needs to "monitor and regulate" these kind of substances so that under aged kids are not buying them from stores. I smoked up when I was under aged and its illegal, and I was pretty irresponsible with it. So I can not see it becoming that hard for kids to get if it becomes legal and still being irresponsible if they really have the drive to get it. At the same time though, would you really say it is alright for 12 year old kids to walk into stores and buy it? 13? 14? 15? What is the appropriate age? Because to be honest I know plenty of 19 year old people that should not be using alcohol the way they do, yet for most people it is a reasonable age to start. You are left with the choice of either setting an age in which most of the people in the age group are developed and mature enough to use it, bring about some form of evaluation in which someone can decide on individuals, or you make no restrictions on age (which will not happen).
hopefully with legalization, they can make better music.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRUCwcmM5mM"]YouTube - The Fartz-Fuck Art Lets Fart The Fartz, one of the first Hardcore Punk bands from Seattle Washington...
Uhh, it shouldn't be sold in stores at all. You should have to grow it to get it. Parents should be able to decide if their child is ready or not and smoke it with them in their home if they so choose. Putting an age limit doesn't keep drugs out of the hands of kids, it just puts innocent people in jail
Legalization bill dies in Washington state Drug War Chronicle The bill had the support of the entire Seattle legislative delegation, as well as the Seattle Times editorial board. But that wasn’t enough to move it out of committee. The legislature’s failure to act clears the way for an effort to take the issue directly to the voters. Sensible Washington is already gathering signatures for a legalization initiative to go before the voters in November. Let’s hope that they can get the signatures collected. seattle is real loose about enforcing/controlling marijuana... we are pretty progressive... but with plenty of opposition.. i think we have a blind-eye kind of status-quo that a lot of people on both sides are happy not to change...
US Attorney Warns Landlords Against Pot Shops The U.S. attorney for Eastern Washington has warned landlords that they could face forfeiture of their properties if they rent to medical marijuana shops. U.S. Attorney Michael C. Ormsby also said in a statement Wednesday that his office is preparing for quick and direct action against the operators of the stores, noting that federal law prohibits marijuana use and marijuana stores are subject to enforcement action. Spokane Pot Shops on Federal Notice Medical marijuana dispensaries in Spokane face federal prosecution if they do not end their operations immediately, the U.S. attorney’s office announced Wednesday. Federal authorities hope for voluntary compliance but are prepared “for quick and direct action against the operators of the stores,” according to a statement by Mike Ormsby, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.
the government pigs are going to do there best to stop this. down with them! legalization would lower crime rates and allow peace in society.
Right, the very reason weed is illegal. Those pigs don't want peace and lower crime rates. They want crime and poor people filling up prisons, that's the shit that makes money.
The act of petitioning... gathering signatures is based on the premise that the government is our advocate and I can assure you that quite the opposite is true. If it came out that a majority of the population were in favor of legalization the "syndicate" would find a team of propagandists to brainwash enough people into believing that marijuana is dangerous to forestall any honest and just policy. They have no intention of respecting our will- At best they will work to misinform for the purpose of changing that general opinion when it does not coincide with their agenda. Step one is conveying in as unambiguous a way as possible that we are on to their game-- of course prerequisite to that is for most people to actually comprehend that- and misinformation, mis-education, and propaganda brainwashing makes that a VERY tall order at best. Don't think that the decades long process of "dumbing down" the population has been anything but deliberate. The United States federal government is a criminal organization that has zero legitimacy to rule... and most state governments are no better.
