oh, funny, i've had the flu the last few days and you know, it's like, i could make that go away, eh?

be strong, move away [i did] if you need to, it can be done

    without a bunch of 12-step garbage . . .

    was thinking last night

if you want to do something, you can do it

i'm not talking about becoming a brain surgeon, i'm talking about being in charge of your own life

so if you really want to quit, you can - and if you don't, you're wasting your time

one thing that i find interesting is the nature of addictive personalities - you will probably need a replacement, which is why people like 12-step programs

i was advised to take up sports [well-meaning but oblivious doctor]

instead, i found things to do that helped other people [and animals], and became addicted to that

whatever gets you through the night . . .

A true addict whos problem goes way beyond drugs can not stop the destructive path they are on just with self will. I dont mean somebody who just likes to get high, I mean somebody who has never been able to deal with feelings and just buries them under a massive pile of dope. Someone who lies, cheats, steals, and takes down anybody in their way just to get that next high. I threw my life away because of this garbage, it wasnt even about the dope in the end. I had a romance with the needle, it was a ritual to stick that thing in any vein that I could find. I shot whatever I could get into it. I didnt care whos lives I was ruining as long as I got my fix. Now I have the help of a power greater than myself, I dont even know what it is. But I know its on my side, lifes never been better

Thank "god" you didn't say it was jeebus.

I think that power IS yourself. Maybe a part of you that you hadn't realized was there before, and maybe a part you still haven't quite found :D

I hate when people say that shit, it's from eating shitty food, drinking soda and juice, and not taking good care of your teeth. my teeth are fine (ever since I stopped shooting dope, started brushing my teeth and flossing, rinsing with mouthwash containing fluoride, and got on methadone). Your bones don't ache, thats such bullshit. Whiny fucking junkies expect methadone to take away all your problems. I'm on methadone, and i feel normal, rarely have cravings, and enjoy life. when i was clean off everything for 3 months, life felt black and white, no pleasure, everything was boring, i felt weird (not normal weird, just everything felt grey, food, drink, sex, i mean everything). Now i feel normal, like i did before i started using opiates. i used to shoot a gram of good tar to get straight (high for maybe 15 min, no nodding), or 2-3mg fentanyl IV to nod. Now i take 70mg a day, and am great. Don't listen to the bullshit about it makes my teeth fall out, i can't stop eating (all thats bullshit, they just are fucking fatasses who can't control themselves and want to blame it on something), or the people who say you need a dose above 100mg, it's bullshit. I had a sky-high tolerance, seriously the highest of anybody i've ever known. I had pure fent powder once a month and had to shoot the equivalent of a 75mcg/hr 72 hour fent patch at once in order to nod for a half hour. and it only takes 70mg for me to be fine.

Also, people who say most people at mdone treatment don't want to get sober; you are right. they just don't want to be sick. however, mdone is a great way to get away from needle fever (wanting to use needles, and getting higher from that than the drugs, in some cases), addictive behavior, and seperating addiction from dependance. For me, it allowed me to seperate the two, and overcome the addiction. while I am still dependant on mdone, i am starting to lower my dose 2mg a week, so i wont feel any withdrawls, or post acute withdrawls, at all. i am over the addiction, i repeat, i dont actively think about gettin ghigh in a positive way, don't feel the urge to get high when something negative happens in my life, and can focus on the truly important things in life, without having to worry about getting dope, finding better mexi crews, avoiding the cops, but most importantly harming the people i care about. it truly is a miracle drug.

To me, there are five basic steps of methadone treatment:
    1. Realize doing opiates will eventually result in overdose, brain damage, death, jail, prison (from selling dope to pay for it, robbing people when you get desperate, etc.), and isolation from everything and everybody that is truly important to your life.
    2. Start preparing for mdone treatment: getting on a using schedule as much as possible (for instance, i started only shoooting a gram once a day, and cut out any benzos and fentanyl), telling people that your getting on mdone (and not listening to them when they try to dissuade you, if they are still using or aren't doing anything with themselves as far as school/work) and to not call you when good dope is around, find something to invest yourself in (like school or a job you enjoy), etc.
    3. Get on the methadone program, and continue to use (once, every 12 hours after your dose) until you get to around 40-50mg. Get comfortable with not being high, and invest yourself even more as said above; begin to take pleasure in your non-drug-related successes. start beginning to seperate addiction and dependance, understanding that addiction is wanting to be high (more or less) with craving for the drug regardless of consequences (whether minor, or major, it doesn't matter) and dependence is the necessity of having a substance in your system to not experience withdrawal (no different than taking a anti-depressant for a depressed person, or haldol for a schizophrenic person, or seroquel for a bipolar person, etc.)
    4. once being clean around 50mg, start to get your dose towards 70-80mg, this will act as a blocking dose and prevent you from getting high evn if you want to; this will help reduce any cravings you still have
    5. once stabilized, try to eliminate anything that reminds you of using, this means bars, clubs, using friends, a girl you used to use with, etc.; practice sober living, not be just being sober, but by being active in social activities, learning an instrument (not at the expense of schooling, however), invest yourself in high school (try some advanced classes, maybe try to earn some AP college credit, etc.) and begin preparing for college (or work, or whatever, depending on age).

I think you will find what i've said is true, and don't be discouraged by the people that say methadone damages their body, makes them ache/teeth fall out, etc. And the people that say you will be on it for a lifetime, that's bullshit. once you're at step 5, and comfortable in your sober life (and have seperated addiction and dependance), begin to wean down at 2mg a week, until your around 30mg, then 1mg a week until 10mg, then 1mg every two weeks (or .5mg a week, if they can do that) until your around 1mg for a couple weeks, and then quit. i think it would help to take clonidine or another non-narcotic, non-physically addictive, non-high generating sleeping pill.

I wouldn't jump into the deep end of methadone right away. You do realize that means daily trips to some random place and waiting in a queue to get your crap? Sounds awful. If you need to go down get on Suboxone, but keep your dose as low as possible.

If you are like me and are suicidally depressed and suffer severe mental disturbances for which no medication or talk therapy other than opioids will alleviate, then long term Suboxone therapy might be a good idea. I like it. Works for me. I only go to doctor once every three months. However, if you can see a future for which opioids need not play a part in, then just get off of them with brief Suboxone therapy or old fashioned will power.

You guys mean well, but don't get it.

OP just wanted an easy legal way to get fucked up. Not about quitting, but about it costing too much.

    "waa, my bones ache"

My bones ache too, it's part of the human condition. Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it. Methadone is for people who are not ready to grow a pair, but don't like the negative effects of not having a pair. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
