I saw that movie it was fucked up Somewhat in same genre as the L.I.E. another little know movie about coming of age and the decisions we make early in life that could permanently fuck up our shit Hotwater
Are you saying that Hendrix doesn't kick ass? Tell me the name of somebody who plays on his level today.
He's not saying Hendrix doesn't rock. He saying that you only like it because you're trying to kiss the ass of older people and that you don't have an identity of your own.
it's one thing to appreciate music from the past, and a completely different thing to base your identity around it.
most pop music now sucks. it's not the kids' fault. your choices are pop or classic rock, unless you want to put some effort into finding music that doesn't get much radio play
I think we can agree that it isn't a great idea to base your identity on entertainers from any era. There are so many other equally important things in life, like sex, drugs, and alcohol.
I am 33, be 34 in may and I always listened to music from the 60's ,70's and 80's and 90's and all types of music types, although I'm not Generation Y or Z or whatever ,I am from what they called Generation X, and I love all kinds of music, from the 60's to even some current ,more undergroud type of music, never been a fan of "pop music" from any era really, and the popular music right now like Lady Gaga and others make me ill...lol..but I listened to all types of music when I was 15, not based on anyone else ot trying to impress them, and it was certainly never my identity, even the music of the early 90's I listened to , did not make me go to Seattle and do heroin, lol...that came later, not the going to Seattle part anyway, been there before the music scene from there was big in the early 90's and shit, and I wish I never messed with the heroin, it became an identity, which sucks, but basing your identity on anything except who you are is just posing!!
You ever think that maybe they just like the music? I liked and still do like all of the music you listed and it's not because I wanted to "suck up" to my parents.
I'm also had just about enough of these Paleontologists who are always all "Oh the Tyrannosaurs was likely a scavenger." They're dead. Get over it and move on with your lives.
Hendrix wasnt really all that great, a few good songs, sure great guitar player, but is that enough? The Beatles - really just the first big boy band, a lot of their songs are prety basic and childish, and really they just stole a lot of it from uber cool american black performers of the couple decades preceding them (by Lennons own admisssion) Hard to seperate the talent from the hype or fame. Radiohead comes to mind as a band technically great, with some catchy tunes, good song writing technically proficient. But they didnt get the same fame as others cos personally they were dull as dishwater, didnt get politically inclined. Lead singer didnt end up getting assasinated, OD'd or got AIDS. Gaga vs Madonna - Arguably Gagas tunes are more catchy, a little more outrageous, but it seems basically cos she's not as pretty (described as a butter face), or doesnt emphasize sex so much as Madonna did, she's no Madonna I hear what some of you are saying that todays music sucks. But appreciating the music is a different thing to wearing the T Shirt. A 14 yr old today with a Grateful Dead T shirt, just seems so try hard - Oh, nana loves you, but I bet she didnt tell you about all the acid she dropped at the time, or all the gangbangs she conservatively called "love ins" at the time
Reppin genZ and wow op is completely off base, maybe it's because those bands are just that good!! And kids isn't to far fetched (except aids part) because that's seriously is how me and all my friends live on weekends and summer. It's fucked up life but ohhhhh man is it fun
So your problem is with "posers" then, not people who are fans of older music. What's nana's free loving past got to do with little Johnny's Dead t-shirt?
really?? I am convinced Jimi Hendrix is an alien, that is how good he is. He was absolutely amazing on guitar and even though he doesn't get a lot of credit for his songwriting skills, I think some of his songs are absolutely beautiful. The man was incredible. The Beatles were the first boy band at first, but their later stuff was pretty experimental and if you really start listening to them you can tell how much they influenced so many bands that came after them. I don't really see whats wrong with a 14 year old getting into the grateful dead, either. I was 17 when I discovered them and they just did it for me. Sure, some kids might wear dead t shirts because they just think its cool, but give the kids the benefit of the doubt, man. maybe some of them actually really like the music.
i like old music because its what i grew up listening to. Moody Blues, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and so on and so forth. Dont hate me because thats what i like. If youre going to hate anyone hate the teeny bopper mall rats that like it for the simple fact that its "in" right now to like that music. I also happen to love rap and electronic music. But as that gets played out and eventually i get bored of it i always know i can pop in my beatles cd and listen to some genuinely good music. if that is so wrong then go ahead and hate me.
