Much appreciated, Glen! I have visited A LOT of forums over the years, spanning topics of almost anything imaginable, but I have never seen anything like this. NEVER have a come across a forum so full of pig headed, egotistical narcissists. So you may have beautiful dreads, am I jealous? Yes, but that doesn't give you the right to belittle me for wanting to know more. Am I going to make some mistakes along the way? Probably, but that's why I'm here, to avoid as many as possible.

And jesus, I did read the stickies before I posted. I feel sorry for the poor sap who posts a couple noob questions after not reading the stickies...

    But, but, but
He doesn't do it the way I do it, surely that means he's wrong????

Edit: This proves my theory that I'm more sarcastic when it's early and I haven't had my coffee.

Make sure you're palm rolling all you can, it's the stuff of success. It's what holds your dreads together, because you're white, so if you don't always squeeze your dreads together, they'll fall apart, until you get enough wax in them.

A crochet hook is a must-have, if you don't have one, get one. It speeds up the point where the wax takes over palm rolling. You'll have to palm roll and crochet new growth, but once it's been crocheted daily and palm rolled every free second you have for about a year, it's set, and you can focus on the new stuff at the roots.

Wax is important. Make sure to get the heavy stuff that won't wash out in the shower, there's some weak shit with a low melting point that comes right out. In order to melt the wax fully into liquid, it should take water that's at a rolling boil. To put it on, it should have to warm up in your hands a few minutes to be soft enough to rub in.

Rubber bands can help, if you don't have them out the ends until you've been crocheting, waxing, and palm rolling for a while, the dreads can unwind from the tips, and the tips won't be blunt and round. Bands every few inches look funny, but can help for a while. Lots of people say you should always have bands at the roots. It does help bind in new hair, but in my opinion, if you don't do it once every week or so, it will be okay, so if you have an interview or something you can skip the rubber bands and it won't be the end of the world, just put them back in as soon as you can.

DreadHeadHQ offers lots of awesome products, I owe my awesome locks to them. But if you're too poor for proper dreadlocks, you can make do for some of their things like locking accelerator with sea salt and a crushed lithium battery in a spray bottle of water, or lock peppa with normal table pepper. I've heard in a pinch, crushed bananas can make up for wax, but that should only be on vacation or other times you don't have access to your wax.

Do all that, and you'll have awesome locks in no time :2thumbsup:

*edit* shit, I forgot root flipping and clockwise rubbing. It's pretty helpful, too. For the flipping, take the tip of the lock, and pull it back half way between the hairs at it's root, so that it makes a loop, and then pull it all the way through so it twists the hairs. This helps make your hair twisty, more like black peoples, so it will lock better. Rubbing, just grab the base of the dread and, pushing it directly down against the roots, rub in a circle. You should rub each root daily for at least 10 minutes, and flip each lock at least weekly, ideally one time up/down, and left/right. (alternate going from left to right or right to left every other week, and the same for up/down. A notebook with diagrams of your head and the positions of all the locks helps with this)

The libertarian board is frustraiting, this was just what I needed to unwind.

see, when someone posts a reply along the lines of what a 'non-elitist' would say, the people that are not (supposedly) "elitists" start acting like elitists.

point is, what Roor wrote was a joke, but the content and the fact that someone might actually follow advice like that is a joke.

    * After being taken to school a few times when i first joined this forum, I've actually come to think that the 'elitists' are cool ... why ... b/c they are still here, they been sticking this thing through for a while

If an 'elitist' wants to Tyler Durden any noob's soft, biscuit ass, then that's their thing ... all the other part-timers can go get f’d

    Rank Talks ... The rest do push-ups :D *.

Glen's right. Dread forum used to be great...full of awesome, helpful, beautiful people. I'm sure it still is, but its changed a lot.

There's a lot of negativity and flaming here now.
