okay here's the story: I met this guy lucas over the summer at band camp for our high school. we both play clarinet, have a lot in common and talk to each other a lot. We see each other everyday at band class everyday and every day and every afternoon in the band storage room when we go to pick up our instruments. i want to go w/ him to the winter dance coming up. UNFORTUNATLY there is this girl Sophie (also in band) she asked him to homecoming, and he said yes (after a week mind you) HOWEVER he hardly talks to her, and only if she starts the conversation. she follows him around like a sick puppy. and whenever she talks to me (only when hes around other wise we ignor each other) she gets smart alecky and always manages to put me down...but the thing is, Lucas never pays any attention to her... he flirts with ME but... I WANT SOPHIE TO BUG OFF!!! she always in the way. and i feel bad because lucas is her first real crush but he doesn't really like her. can you help me figur out what to do?

On loving your enemy "Hate the sin, love the sinner"

You don't even have to like here, just treat her the same respect you would any human. Channel all the anger to the action, not the actor.

On this guy, you might want to ask him to homecoming to and maybe politely (I really do mean politely) tell Sophie that you aslo had your sights set on him. May the best woman win.

If you ask him then he might be torn between you and Sophia and he'll either, (i) be a chicken and be scared to admit feelings for anyone and say "But Sophie asked me first" and thereby keep out of hot water, or (ii) he'll choose who he prefers, and then it is a case of may the best woman win.

Him being a guy, I think (i) seems very likely. That's what every guy on the planet is like.

    Good luck

i think this probably will depend a lot on the age of the people involved.

a younger guy (younger than 14 or 15) will almost definitely say "but sophie asked me first" because if he was a little more forward and self assured, he would have probably already asked you, the girl he flirts with, out anyway ;)

if he's older, then he may tell her no and then say yes to you, but really, that would make him kind of a jerk wouldn't it? haha he just shouldn't have said yes to her if he wanted to go with someone else, not dump her now after already saying yes.

why don't you just tell him of your interest and not necessarily relate it to that dance?
