What you said earlier applies: morality and the law don't coincide sometimes. Do what you need to do and good on ya'.

    You go, girl!:2thumbsup:

And I'm serious...I got a nice big animal lover son (6'4") should your bro need any aide. Getting that dog in sounds good, and this weather really might be just what you need to get her on in with you safely tonight. I wish you could immediately take her somewhere by morning. I would not advise saying anything to that woman about anything...not until you have that dog out of there.

If you can go get that dog, do it. Possession is 9/10's law and that dumb-ass owner prolly doesn't know if it's not. :)

I you must, tell 'em you have pics, you know ppl., get your brother over there now, really...even the news...I wouldn't threaten with the law...hell, they'd prolly be like...yeah, duh? My cousin? I'm serious. The law is against you, and I know that is the truth.

Then later, as soon as possible, the dog needs to go...to where you will happily join him later. Or y'all could go together. Either way, you got right and might on your side...and I can assure you, it can and does work.

    Let us know.

No animal should be treated this way. You are doing the right thing but taking the puppy. I know my 8 week old puppies (now five months) would not have been outside in that kind of weather. Sure I keep my dogs outside but they are given food and water and exercise. They have a dog house with a bed that they use when outside. They are brought in the house when the weather takes a turn for the worst. I love my three dogs like they are my own and I treat them as such. People that threat animals or children badly should be treated the same way. Good Luck!! I wish you all the best.

I totally think you did the right thing there. It may not have been totally legal, but it's what I would have done. I've worked with animals voluntarily for almost five years now, and in some jobs that involved sneaking into people's gardens to take mistreated cats and dogs, taking rabbits from owners who loved them but had no clue of how to look after them... my friends joke that I do it for the excitment but we all know that I don't. Animals are my passion and in your situation I would do the same thing. Well, I did so the same thing when I was in your position :D

I don't know what the outcome was but I would not offer them money, whats to say they wont get another dog like they did when the two pit balls died-
I would hate to have that vibe next door to me or in my neighborhood, can you call noise pollution get these people into some trouble hassle them in some way they don't know its you- paint all their windows black maybe and write dog murders all over it, fuck up their cars I dunno make their lives a bit less cosy know people are on their case..
Find out what they are protecting in the house with a dog, then ransack the place so they know their guard is not working-
or you can leave it to karma and believe me these people will not escape the pain they inflicted on these poor creatures everyone has to face wrong doings no-one escapes..
I really feel for you, sending a beam of light must get you really down :(

^I'm gonna leave it up to karma. I'm about to get out of this shitty ass neighborhood.

so update. I had the dog again all last week and then last weekend I gave her back so the woman's daughter could play with her. I'm a sucker for kids. Anyways the house was once again empty on monday (we had one of the biggest thunderstorms in years that night too) so I went back over there, took the dog, and I've had her ever since. The woman texted me thursday and asked me to feed the dog because she's been sick...I was like lady, I've had your dog all week, the dog would be starved and dehydrated by now if it weren't for me. I haven't heard from her since.

I'm starting to move all my shit out today and I don't think anyone is even going to notice when I take her with me. Alls well that ends well. Except for one thing - she has a bit of a mean streak if you try to hold her when she doesn't want to be held. I'm pretty sure that comes from being tied up on the chain. She starts snarling and biting the shit out of your hands, but I think getting settled into our new home and getting daily love and exercise should fix that.

call the police to make a report about the two dead dogs. depending on the state, the owners could be faced with felony charges.

find out any information you can about the owners, names, addresses, phone, license tag numbers etc. then you can report your concern about the puppy.

stand up for these animals, they need you!

this is my advice based on my experience as an animal advocate.

I wanted to post an update because I'm really happy with the way everything turned out :)

After I moved the dog owner kept harrassing my brother, trying to find out where I live. She called me a million times and left really hateful messages, threatening to call the cops and charge me with trespassing. She told me she was finally able to take the dog to where she is currently living. I wasn't really in the mood to go to jail and I felt bad that she brought my brother into all of this so I gave the dog back, complete with the dog food, toys, and bones that I bought for her.

I think that made her realize I really love the puppy, because she called me the very next day and said her daughter decided she wanted me to have the dog. So after all that bullshit, she's finally mine :) here's a picture.

A stuffed animal that an ex boyfriend bought me came with a bathrobe that happens to fit my doggy perfectly. So here she is in her new home, rockin her hugh hefner-esque bathrobe.

next time i'll know to just call animal control instead of trying to take control of the situation myself, but it worked out perfectly this time :)

oh, and vig, I did call animal control and report the pits. Theres nothing they can do now without proof but I think they're going to be keeping an eye on them from now on.

I named her Eustacia Vye after my favorite female literary character. I shortened it to Eushie and everyone keeps thinking her name is Yoshi lol.

hooray for you and your new doggie!

I bet the little girl loved the dog though, maybe that's why she gave her up. maybe she could still play with it sometimes?

yeah I told them to call me anytime and she can have a play date.

Her mom was talking in circles and making up a ton of excuses for why she was giving her to me, but from what I got out of it, the daughter wanted the dog to sleep inside with her and she would instead be staying in a pen outside. I think the daughter realized I could show her a lot more attention and give her a better home. I thought it was a pretty mature decision for a ten year old to make. :2thumbsup:

I think I would scold the shit out of that dog...

I'm no trainer, and only deal with little dogs, but I make sure they know who's boss, for their safety as well as mine.(don't need them disobeying when they feel like it, and stirring shit up with javelina, who will kill them AND me, or deer, who will kill them, or large dogs, that will kill them and maul me, etc. I have lots of wild shit around my house.) The same would apply, that much more, with a bigger dog.

Sounds like one parent with a ten year old's brain, and one ten year old with an i-dunno-how-old's brain. Totally, have the kid over to play with the dog.

But PLEASE, next time you break the law, come silently, raise hell, and vanish before anyone knows that you existed. You're pretty lucky you didn't end up in the slammer like 3 times :p

lol yeah, I think generally when people break the law they attempt not to get caught. I like to do things a little differently :)

I've got her under control now. She hasn't snarled or acted crazy (other than puppy energy) in a few days. I'm actually much better with bigger breeds; I've never been able to control a small breed for some reason.

now onto the next step..housebreaking. I'm starting to understand why people can leave their dogs on chains all the time. Just kidding...but damn. Housetraining is frustrating.

I hate the mistreatment of animals, be it dogs, snakes or spiders. The dog you rescued is beautiful.
